Saving cpu?

My emachine went dead. From what I've heard psu burns out mobo. I rebuilt it with a new mobo and cpu. My question is should I assume the cpu, P4 2.6 is bad also or is it worth keeping? How can I tell if the p4 is still good? Thanks

Put the old CPU in ur new mobo and boot the machine up. Then have it encode any video for and hour or two and leave it be. If it finishes the encoding properly, then it's abolutely fine.
