What we know so far: Scientists have uncovered a naturally occurring gut bacterium from common tree frogs that can completely eradicate cancerous tumors in lab animals. The organism even outperforms some existing therapies. The discovery has the potential to revolutionize cancer treatment, but the research needs more work.

Japanese researchers have identified a naturally occurring bacterium that shows promise as a treatment for a specific type of cancer. In a study published in the journal Gut Microbes, a team led by Professor Eijiro Miyako at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology reported that Ewingella americana, isolated from the gut of a common tree frog, demonstrated a strong ability to destroy cancer cells in laboratory testing.

To reach that conclusion, the researchers examined 45 different bacterial strains found in the intestines of Japanese tree frogs, Japanese fire-bellied newts, and Japanese grass lizards. After an initial screening, they narrowed the field to nine strains that showed measurable antitumoral effects.

Among those candidates, E. americana stood out. In experiments involving lab mice injected with colorectal cancer, the bacterium completely eradicated the tumors, achieving a 100 percent response rate. The results exceeded those produced by existing treatment models, including antibody-based inhibitors and chemotherapy.

The research shows that E. americana destroys cancer cells through multiple complementary mechanisms. Medical Xpress notes that the anaerobic bacterium has a direct cytotoxic effect by accumulating inside oxygen-deprived cancer cells, increasing its presence by roughly 3,000 times after a single intravenous administration.

The bacterium both overstimulates the immune system and selectively targets cancer cells. At the tumor site, its rapid proliferation releases inflammatory proteins that draw T cells, B cells, and other immune cells, concentrating the body's defenses where they are most needed. It then accumulates in tumors while leaving healthy organs unaffected, likely due to the anaerobic environment of cancerous tissue, weakened local immune suppression, and the distinct metabolic conditions of tumors.

The study notes that E. americana appears safe for administration, as it rapidly clears from the bloodstream and shows no tendency to colonize healthy tissues. The bacterium can trigger a mild inflammatory response, which typically subsides within 72 hours.

Miyako's team is developing a cancer therapy based on the naturally occurring bacterium and continuing research to better understand this new ally in the fight against cancer. They are particularly focused on how E. americana affects other types of cancer, optimizing administration to reduce inflammatory side effects, and exploring how it can work alongside existing immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatments.

Story 1,394 of "cancer breakthrough" that never really happens. Why? Because the cancer "industry" won't support or promote it.
No $$$$ made in CURING anything, just treating it.
This will be locked away in filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard.

Cures aren't profitable, treatments are. This will be buried as long as pharmaceutical companies can't make a profit on it.
I really hate this stupid conspiracy theory. You guys do know there is a world outside the USA right? 99% of the world doesnt have for profit healthcare. Everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE else, Cancer is a massively expensive and horrible disease to treat, a cure that doesnt disable people would be vastly preferred.

And in case you didnt bother to read the article, this research is being done in JAPAN, not the USA.

Why can't we have a block user setting. These clowns come out in every single medical story and post the same conspiracy BS every time. This site should be called wccftechspot.com

I'll be interested in seeing if anything comes from this. I'd be very careful to test this on other kinds of animals besides rodents before injecting a live bacterium into a human. It could react differently in a primate from a rodent, or it could turn out to be dangerous to immune compromised patients or those with other health issues, like diabetics.

But I seriously hope it works.

Yes the $$$ is in the research and treating
Also, we don't need more people living longer. Planet is already overpopulated.

That is exactly what reason capitalism will die sooner rather than later once humanity realizes that literally is the only thing that keeps it from immortality.

And here it is, the classic global conspiracy where hundreds of thousands of scientists, universities, hospitals, governments, rival pharma companies, and whistleblowers all cooperate perfectly to hide the biggest medical breakthrough in history…for decades…with zero leaks.

The idea that cures aren’t profitable is funny. A real cure would be worth more than any ongoing treatment, win Nobel Prizes, make CEOs legends, and obliterate competitors overnight.

Cancer isn’t one disease and there isn’t one magic cure...biology is just complicated, not a cartoon villain plot.

But if there were a technology or cure-for-all cancer pill. The person/people holding that would disappear or be in the obituaries overnight. The Pharma industry is worth trillions of dollars globally. You'd need some huge backers to go against them.

I rather like my approach better. Don't release the information for peer review, or announce any news of your findings. Better to distribute the information about the technology/cure to every corner of the internet. Extremely difficult to control information online.

Wait till we start treating genetics. People will live longer and that population issue will be a much more serious problem. Not to worry, there are plenty of viruses out there ready to take us out 🤫😂

No, big pharma would just purchase it and make a fortune distributing it… mankind isn’t immortal - if cancer doesn’t kill is, some other disease will… and big pharma will be researching cures/treatments for that…

There is no reason for anyone to “cover up” a cure for cancer!

Capitalism has nothing to do with it. People are inherently self centered and greedy and that'll never change.
Capitalism fuels greed quite literally. It rewards it.

I tend to agree with you mostly although there is a phenomenon of altruism and it is quite widespread throughout all cultures and civilizations.

IMHO there is no viable alternative to capitalism today however it does seems uncapped it runs rampant. Socialism many nations attempted with devastating results. Communism failed miserably with massive casualties worldwide. Something like Tar Trek’s system might be the future but we don’t have even a theory base for that yet. Only Sci-Fi.

Socialism is doing just fine in nordic countries. In fact, thriving. Purely being one or the other is problematic. Folks just throw socialism, communism, etc around without even knowing what it means.

The USA is already very socialist for example but the folks screaming how evil socialism is probably never graduated 3rd grade.

Veitnam and China is also doing great under communism. Its not the failure you make it out to be. It didnt last many times because there was political and military resistance to it.

China may SAY they’re communist but they aren’t… they’re a dictatorship with capitalist tendencies… communism only works when there’s a place for the dissidents to go… Israeli kibbutzs were one of the few places where it actually worked - but that was because anyone who didn’t like it was free to move to the cities…

OK then, fine. It just won't come to the United States, or it will be so absolutely prohibitively expensive that the average person won't be able to afford it. Case in point, why does insulin cost what it does in the US when in Canada it costs pennies comparatively speaking?

You have no idea how massively powerful the pharmaceutical lobbying group is in the United States. The FDA is one of the most corrupt institutions in the United States. Just look at what they allow in our food supply, no other country on Earth would allow even half the s**it that we have in something as simple as macaroni and cheese.
