So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

Oh alright thats really good. Have fun with your new card :)
Any pci card will work really good depending on your setup, you seem to have a good setup :)

I already ran tests using pc mark 2006 and it was horrible.
http://www.overclock.net/benchmarking-software-discussion/510076-my-3dmark06-score.html

That is with the 8400gs, i only scored slightly higher using the 2400hd. Both were bad overall tho.

3dmark is crap tho, none of those benchmarking programs shows how powerful your gpu or cpu can be. So i don't bother with benchmarking unless its with ATI tray tools when i am using a ati card.

Its just a program to give you a reference to where your pc stands. You're only going to get individual scores from pcmark vantage.

WEI Benchmarks (Dimension 3000):

Processor: 3.8

Memory: 4.2

Graphics for Aero: 5.6 :)approve:)

Game Graphics: 5.1 :)cool:)

Hard Drive: 5.7 (;))

Total: 3.8

Edit: I overclockit (A little)

PCI cards are bad for gaming, they shouldnt be recommended and only used when you have no other option. Don't add to the fudder electro, this isnt your first trash post. I guess I shouldnt expect your last.

Well it all depends on how you view performance. Most people who game say, 30fps is not playable, some say anything under 50 is bad. Imo, if i can play any game at 1280x1024 high to very high with all the eye candy on or off and still get a solid 20-30 or 30-40fps , well i am happy with that. With L4d at 1280x1024 high to high to low settings AFX16, AAX2, i get a solid 16-29fps with my 8400gs. Thats perfect for me.

I plan to move away from using PCI ( even tho this may change ) , but whatever i move on or not, pci cards are decent performance cards if you aren't one of those people who want 60fps and more with [newer games].

Its all hardware based, you're talking about gaming on a 17" monitor, which was common 5-8 years ago, its still sub par.

I only game using crt monitors at 1280x1024. I never plan to buy a LCD monitor unless all Crt monitors are vanish from the earth lol. But anyways, i am using my 8400gs right now, and the best drivers from what it seems to be because i had some issues with " certain games 3-5 " while the rest will play good, so i had to find a driver that fix the performance issues with those 5 games, and well the 185.85 drivers did the trick.

Besides the point, um i can game just fine with any game between the years of 1999-late 2008.
Those 2008 games are budget games btw. Most of my games i have install: see here:

Is running at 1280x1024 high to max settings and i get anywhere between a solid 30-400fps.
Even hell gate i have at 1280x1024 no aa, max settings and i get between 35-70 frames.
Test drive unlimited runs ok tho at low settings, which is why i said most. But anyways, pci cards is has been good to me, and even tho not the greatest, still pretty good for certain games. I am sure the performance will be better if i had another 8500gt or a 8600gt or even the 9 series card. or even that 4350.

Has anyone attempted to play age of Conan with a pci card? Did your computer blow up? Just curious. Bam check this out save 250$ and poof you can play any modern game at high fps\graphical settings with decent resolution. No pci card with any system can beat this cheap setup. There are so many other options out there, if you can possibly save up 380$ do not buy a pci card. I bought a pci card about 2 years ago, I had very limited income, it kept my dell dimension 2400 going and allowed me to play really old games with ease. Pci to pci-e is like candles to light bulbs. Sure living in a shack with candles is cheaper, but if possible shell out a couple of bucks and move into a place with light bulbs. The best candle in the world pales in comparison to the worst light bulb.

Plus a video card for around 130$

Grand total 380$

What's that X-men 2 game ?

You also got Project eden. What's your FPS in that ?

By the way the pci 6200 Nvidia card is goes to 60FPS on some games older ones though.

x men rise of apocalypse. I haven't played it yet, just have it install, but i will get around to playing it soon.

Not sure, haven't tested the game on this system yet with my 8400gs. But i played it a few years ago when i was using my Intel Pentium III and it run at a solid 50-89fps using my 6200 oc bfg and 8400gs.

By the way the pci 6200 Nvidia card is goes to 60FPS on some games older ones though.

Yea the 6200 is a pretty good card, for light to mid gaming. Btw what video card are you buying soon? did you check on the 9400gt yet?

And btw i am going computer shopping soon, and i will be replacing this amd emachine single core with a brand new dual core rig, and i plan to continue using PCI cards. Going to buy a 8600GT PCI as my next card. I hope everything works out better, if so i will be using pci cards until they officially die. My 8400gs is running games really good, but could run much better.

But until i get the new rig, i plan to buy a new pci card for the moment. or i will ahead and buy a new rig.

They will soon. Why would you never buy an LCD? If CRT's were better, why do you think they are vanishing...

Well Crt's are sold in major retail stores , so i buy them from the pawn shop or thift stores. But the only way i will buy or use a lcd if one came with a computer i buy, or if somehow crt monitors will disapppear, but i am not sure that will happen anytime soon.

I guarantee they will disappear soon, they consume three to five times as much power as the LCD's do. and with the world going green, they will be phased out if not mandated out of existence.

Not exactly an answer...
I really can't think of any logical reasons not to get an LCD these days. Maybe "logical" is the key word here.

CRTs consume more power, run hotter, and are far more harmful to the eyes, while also taking up more space than LCD screens. Colors used to be displayed better on CRTs, but with the advent of better LCD panels, there is virtually no difference between the best LCD and CRT screens.

They keep changing the dates on receiving the card to sell.
