So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

Actually everything he said is true.

That is the worst advice i have ever heard. To build a better rig around a PCI graphics card? A 9400gt even - which is not even a gaming card in any bus type. And i dont even know how you can give advice like this when clearly you do not understand anything about bus speeds and bottlenecks.

No screenshot, "benchmark" or video will ever convince people that somehow you get amazing fps in Crysis Warhead. You dismiss standard benchmarking tools like 3DMark06, Crysis Benchmarking tool as "inaccurate" and your screenshots of gameplay where there is next to nothing going on is how you attempt to prove how you get great FPS on a PCI card.

Most people here have been PC gaming for years, they understand the limitations of their hardware and how to get better performance. Now you coming on here claiming all they need to do is get better hardware around a PCI card is absurd.

QFT.

Even if we took the clue-by-four approach and beat Tha General with a sense-stick, it would not help. He ignored all and any proof, and he keeps spouting nonsense like there is no tomorrow about PCI cards needing better CPUs to give better results and what not. I've proven that a 3.9Ghz E5200 and a PCI 8500GT are not capable of getting playable frame rates in relatively current games (TES IV: Oblivion, Crysis, CoD4) - In fact they can rarely, if ever, get over 20 fps on average even on the lowest resolutions which makes the games look like complete trash.

It hasn't stopped Tha General from dismissing these results out of hand (among other things by saying that something in my system wasn't set up right), as well as his own results showing the Crysis benchmark getting around 10 fps on his system, and claiming his super PCI cards can do better, while the truth is simple:
PCI cards are not meant for gaming current games - They are meant as a last ditch upgrade option for those who cannot afford a different upgrade and are content with playing at low FPS, low resolutions, low graphics settings or any combination of those.

Ugh.

So your all saying PCI is not meant for gaming. What about PCI Express x1 slot.

I got a slot in my PC.

Neither is that for gaming. The PCI-E x1 is way better than PCI (Dedicated bandwidth, and more of it), but PCI-E x1 video cards are overpriced to heck, and a PCI-E x1 (Unless it is a PCI-E 2.0 x1) slot affects even a weak card like the HD4350 (Proof here - I cut a HD4350 to work on a PCI-E x1 slot, read all about it in there and notice the FPS drops in the sawed-off mode in a PCI-E x1 slot).

Do me a favour Yukikaze. Try Streetfighter 4 benchmark, or PC game with your cut down card, please and post back results.:grinthumb

I am not home in the moment (visiting the USA), so that'll have to wait for a couple of weeks. When I get back I should be able to do that (Drop me a PM to remind me in....oh....two weeks to make sure I still remember). You want that on PCI-E 2.0 x1 or PCI-E 1.1 x1 bandwidth ?

i get 60.0 FPS in the menus, 17/22.6 FPS in ingames,18/25 in the movies

Games:

Sonic Riders [GC]

But in the newers revisions, i have BIG slowdowns

Emulator version:

Dolphin SVN R 4203 (NO slowdowns)

I am sure it is, nice rig and cool card. Have fun with your new system

Thank you General. For the record, I did not say you could not game on a PCI card.........I merely stated that you have to play at reduced quality and performance which is entirely true. I don't have a super Core I7 with dual GeForce 295 GTX's here, just a nice little gaming rig and let me tell you right now that there is no PCI based system that could come close to touching it. You just can't match up with PCI-E using standard PCI. I know, I used PCI for probably 4 or 5 years. Having come from a gaming rig utilizing AGP it was hard to swallow the performance loss but it was a good computer and I didn't feel like spending my very hard earned money on another system.

With PCI you just won't ever be able to see the games the way they are meant to be. My god man, have you seen Crysis at max settings? It's a marvel of todays graphic technology. I don't think I would even play it without all this eye candy now that I've seen it first hand. I can actually play Bioshock now too..........without it becoming a slideshow when getting attacked. The scenery in that one is outstanding as well..............especially when maxed out.

If you want to continue gaming with standard PCI cards, hey more power to you. I did it for a long time. Just let me tell you this..............you really don't know what you're missing if you can't max out these games. I think that you will see what I mean when you buy that PCI-E card and put some games on it. It's a leaps ahead of AGP and worlds away from PCI. I think a nice GeForce 260 GTX would be a nice choice and they've come down in price a bunch.

Well folks now that i am using pcie, no more PCI for me. Sorry guys, but after using my 9500gt pcie, there is a like a 90% performance boost haha. This is crazy i swear haha.

Just gonna toss this out there, because I know everyone else wants to say it. 'NO sh*& shorelock." Enjoy your pci e card.

Big Congrats go out to Tha General for being bold enough to finally get a PCI-e card. Giant leap of faith for this man.

What Tha General you traitor. :suspiciou We are not all got loads of money.

Heh may your gaming be fast forever.

It sounded funny, so I said it ,congrats for you all PCI to PCI Express movers.

:stickout:

Yea man, no more stuttering or pausing or anything, everything is smooth and running above 60 fps like 99% of the time, with max settings, its crazy man haha.
Need for speed hot pursuit 2 old game i know, but i am getting 200-300fps max now, whereas i use to get 15-25fps.

LOL well i would of kept using PCI cards if they sold them in stores nationwide, which they do not. So also i have a x16 pcie slot just sitting in the rig, so i just said lets move on to pcie. And glad i did to be honest.

You don't need alot of money, my advice for you, just buy a prebuilt rig and buy this 9500GT galaxy 1gb and you will be very happy you did.

This is my computer i have:

But i am replacing this rig and buying this:

Hey one question how do you quote people in this forum and then post multiple quote in your post.

Also Tha General. If I do upgrade, I'll buy the parts to make my own PC. Not from a company.

What's your Youtube account now man. Are you a celebrity.

Just built your own it's easier :).

I was just joking in my last but 1 post.:haha:

Hey one question how do you quote people in this forum and then post multiple quote in your post.

I right click on the quote button and open it up in a new window, copy and paste the information and reply. Then repeat the same.

Well if you like building have fun, just make sure you get the Galaxy 9500GT 1GB or whatever you like i guess.

What's your Youtube account now man. Are you a celebrity.

http://www.youtube.com/user/MysteryRidahz

I am already on your account i believe. And yes i am a well known celebrity and model and actor and you will find out who i am in the future.

Just built your own it's easier :).

No its not easier, you have to take time to order parts, wait for the parts and put the sh** together, i don't have time for none of that. I always buy prebuilts and is never changing that idea. Just go to the store, buy what i want, back home in 5-10 mins.

And yes i am a well known celebrity and model and actor and you will find out who i am in the future.

In the future? On your YouTube account your name is stated very clearly. No offense, but I've never heard of you, and and a quick search shows that you don't have a Wikipedia article about you like every other celebrity does :)

Or by that do you mean that you will be famous in the future?

I gather if you want to know any information, you can just pm or make a thread about it haha.

I do not want any personal information. I was just curious because not everything adds up. I'll leave it at that.

On another note:
What interface do integrated graphics chipsets use? Is it a form of integrated PCI express, or is it it's on type entirely?

I

Don't. Just don't. Get a normal video card, like say a HD4670 at the minimum. The 9500GT has a horrible price-performance ratio, and that 1Gb of memory on it is as silly as they get.

Tha General - Stop recommending/saying things if you have no idea what you're talking about, PCI, PCI-E or otherwise.

Not sure if you posted on a forum called overclocking.net, but i was for years, and i remember telling folks over there i was going to buy a 4670 and everyone thought i was crazy and said the 4670 is not a good card. So your advice can be viewed as bad also, so its really just an opinion. Thats why i also said , " whatever he likes ".
He could buy the GDDR3 9500gt install , the OC edition.

The HD 4670 is a fantastic card for the lower end, especially when compared to the 9500GT, which it slaps in the face with a proverbial trout as far as performance is concerned.

Read my previous post. Last line.

It shares bandwidth with PCI slots.
