So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

Glad to hear you're getting up with the times General. I think now you can see what I meant when I said "reduced quality and performance" earlier and what everyone else has been saying all along. It's good that you're enjoying that 9500 but I'm telling you...........with the way prices are falling on the 260 cards I think it's the best bang for the buck out there right now. You should be able to find plenty of them at the stores you like to shop at too. Now I think you should use fraps and replay your games at the exact same settings as before..........just to see how significant the difference is. Again, grats on the new upgrade :grinthumb

I was wondering if any of you guys could tell me what motherboard would support a evga 9400gt 1gb pci card, cpu socket 478,184-pin ram? Weak I know but I was just wondering. I already try to throw it in a presario sr1103wm with 400w psu and two gig of ram and that did not work. Pretty sure motherboard is not compatible.

i beg to differ the 4870 1gb is the best bang for buck card out there right now since you can get one for $144 vs like $179 for a 260 and they both perform around the same.

Klepto is right, the 4870 out performs the 260, and can be had for less.

Thanks, but i don't buy cards that require power connectors and i never will.

then you will always have a poor gaming experience compared to the rest of us

Poor gaming experience, maybe you need to read my latest post about my 9500GT and then go to my youtube page, because every game i play now at my favorite resolution 1280x1024 max settings with AA settings full AF16, plays above 60 and more. So you might wanna do some research before talking.

Let me be more clear, sorry about that. I meant to say, i tested 8 games so far with my card, from timeshift to l4d to crysis, to test drive, and some other ones. I meant to say, most of my games runs above 60 all the time at max settings at 1280x1024, while others at 1280x1024 max settings, stays above 40 or around 20-30-100-300fps For example, Crysis at 1280x1024 all high to low 40-80fps, Timeshift 1280x1024 max settings 32-62fps,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQe3nniEg80&feature=channel

Cod4 at 1280x1024 AAX2, Max settings , 45-90fps easily. So overall what klepto12 said is ignorant and makes no sense. Sound like a obsessed graphic freak if you ask me. All my games are running perfectly like i want with max or near max settings , and i am happy.

peace

For example, Crysis at 1280x1024 all high to low 40-80fps

Crysis @Medium, according to Guru3d, = 23fps

Interesting review if you keep in mind what Tha General has been claiming

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-9500-gt-review/8

Before we start the conclusion of this review I really need to remind you guys that this is a budget card, an entry level card, and at this budget it's just doing really well. I say this because the Guru3D audience is very mainstream and high-end oriented. And looking downwards from that perspective, performance like shown today would be laughed at.

dont make me laugh general i play cod waw with everything max aa asf everything and get 90 fps at 1680x1050 res now that is playing nice get with the times and buy a new rig and quit you lies about your crappy rig.

dude get over your self a pci card and the rig you have will never get those fps in those games hell even my old 7900 GTX is probably faster than a 9500 gt. read this and tell me your not lying to us look at the res your playing at and the big 13 fps it gets and this is the pcie version lol.

Agreed as well but Tha General seems to prefer Nvidia cards hence the recommendation. Either one would be a huge upgrade over his 9500 GT.

Then you're not really playing anything demanding, and that is quite alright, but try GTA IV or Crysis for size and see your FPS commit suicide. I can give you a very long list of games in which the 9500GT isn't going to manage the kind of performance you're talking about on maxed settings, at your resolution. Please stop the FUD, yet again.

He could have gotten a superior nVidia card which requires no power connector (Say, the 9600GT or 9800GT). Granted, they are more expensive, but they also perform tons better than the 9500GT. Well, as long as he is happy with it, so be it.

Tha General, what is your problem with video card power connectors ?

If I remember right, he always plans on buying two video cards. But why not spend what they both cost on one good one. I really don't see what his aversion to the external power connection is.

By the way, I just got to say this to Tha General, congrats on being banned from forums 80 times, under many different names. And I guess for the same kind of FUD you put out here. Must be some kind of record, along with the amount of forums that you belong to.

Oh, and I notice in another forum, that you also have a Gateway with a quad 8300? Is that right?

Um no, i like both nvidia and ati the same, i just bought a nvidia card first, but i am buying a ati card very soon. But i do not buy cards that require connectors.

Tha General, what is your problem with video card power connectors ?
I just don't feel like connecting a power supply to my video card, i also never want to remove my power supply that comes with the rig. Just like with my old Pentium III,
there is still a 90 watts PSU in it, and its still working since 2000. So with any rig i own, i want the PSU to last well forever, and until it dies out for good, then and only will i replace it. So pretty much, i really just don't feel like removing my PSU or hooking a PSU up to a card. I rather just put the card in, and be done with it.
I like keeping things simple, very simple.

If I remember right, he always plans on buying two video cards.
Yes because i like both ati and nvidia the same, so i support both of them. So right now i have the 9500gt, plan to buy a 4550. And when i get my secondary rig, i plan to buy a 4670 and a 9800GT(low power version).

Oh, and I notice in another forum, that you also have a Gateway with a quad 8300? Is that right?

Nope, not yet. I am not sure which Quad i am buying, I am not buying that rig until later this year, most likely early dec.

Show me the crysis time demo with those settings, and then I'll think about believing you get 50 fps. A few screenshots mean nothing. You easily could have taken those when you got those fps for just a few seconds, but really get an average of 15-20 fps.

lol general everyone here on techspot will agree with me that there is no way that you get those fps in crysis with the system you have. lol and the screen shots you put up mean nothing they can be photoshoped easy enough lol when leget reviews used a systme many times more powerful than yours and got 13 fps in the same game at the same resolution on all high settings. so dont try and feed us your load of bs.

His screenshots might not be legitimate, but I really can get 311 fps on high settings at 1920 x 1200! And no, of course I did not pull this of a google image search and photoshop it in about 10 seconds!

Anyone using the PCI 8500GT ? I have one in a dell dimension (see link) and it works fine for older games i.e flight sims etc. A couple of nvidia drivers ago I noticed that you could enable/disable Physics on the card. Nvidia bough Aegis a while back and folded support for their physics engine into some nvidia cards. It looked like the 8500 supported it, or at least nVidia control panel gave you the option. Later drivers this feature seems to have vanished. Anyone played around with it or got an improvement. I think only some games can exploit this.

BTW Also got a new 80plus PSU for my old Dell, which works well. No improvement on 3dmark03 (still around 5700) but consumes less power (http://mr-ives.blogspot.com/search/label/akasa

I have the Sparkle 8500GT on PCI in a mITX rig, but I don't think I've tried to activate PhysX on it. Oh, and a small correction, PhysX was originally created by Ageia, not Aegis.

PhysX is supported by selected games, and has a very noticeable effect on FPS (lowering them that is, before any of you get certain ideas...), so I don't think it'd be a good option to try and run on a low-end card like the 8500GT.

Got rid of my 8500GT PCI a long time ago. That was an awesome PCI card before it came out in the States but since then has been replaced on the market with better PCI cards. Hope to never have to bother with PCI GPUs again.

I'm rolling with the HD 3850 AGP these days, never need another GPU for this P4 again! Planning out my Intel Core i7 920 build currently and I hope to stick two HD 4870's 1GB in it! HD 4870 1GB is the performance to price king right now!

And of course, Tha General's claims on FPS are outlandish to be polite. No one but him could ever achieve such results on his setups. I don't even know if my planned i7 920 build could get what he claims he can in Crysis with his 2.6 GHz single core CPU & 9500GT GPU.
