Speaker quit, only have sound thru phones ???

I don't know if I pushed the "wrong button" or what, but
all of a sudden I get no sound over the speaker in the box,
only the headphones have sound.

Doesn't work with the phones unplugged, and the
volume control in control panels and in the taskbar
are not set to mute.

Thank goodness for this Forum - I recently discovered it
and have already got a number of aggravating long term
problems solved.

What kind of speakers are you using; 5.1? If you have a lot of wires behind your desk you may have just unplugged the speakers. Maybe check all of your connections because if your headphones are working then it must not be a sound card issue. I'm assuming you are plugging your headphones directly into your sound card..

Nothing so fancy on this old computer -
it's just the speaker in the box that runs
off the board.

Yes, I do plug my phones into a PCI sound card
which used to cancel the sound out of the
speaker in the box.

You think maybe the sound card has something
wrong?

I'm building a new unit - complete with speaker
plug ins on the board (ASUS) so I shouldn't
be able to screw that up
