Start-up errors with Windows /Home

I have been getting occasional errors when logging on to XP--specifically a BSD about a bad driver. Usually if I just re-boot everything is fine. But, I haven't installed any new hardware or programs with drivers so I don't know how to solve the problem. Device manager shows no bad drivers and the error code seems different each time.

Also, but maybe unrelated, Trendmicro warns me that I have a serious security issue with MS04-028. When I check Microsoft for updates I find I am current, but I ran the patch for this error anyway and got the same answer--that it already was corrected. Yet the error message still re-appears.

Any suggestions or do you need more info?

No help with the driver error.

However a little utility that may be of interest Belarc Advisor.
It prints out system info and also has a list of installed patches. If any are not properly installed it will be marked.
