Steam now has more monthly active players than Xbox Live

PC is not objectively better than console. Theres no such thing as an objectively better gaming platform because it depeneds on what each one plays. Doesn´t matter if PC can deliver 144fps 144hz 1440p etc if it doesn´t run a game like Horizon Zero Dawn or Last of Us wich someone might want to play (I´m not a fan myself). So that stops being objectively better.

There is no point in running a game with Ultra textures high resolution and high framerate if you can´t enjoy that game online - for example Call of Duty on PC completly hacked out, good luck finding a lobby without hackers - FIFA 17 takes 20 minutes to find someone to play on online seasons as the userbase is so small, on console it takes 5 seconds to match with someone - Mortal Kombat X I can´t even find oponent online most of the time while on console is instant matching too. Among many other games like Battlefield 1. Right now here in Europe we have 4 domination servers available to play, the one with lower ping is 80ms wich is too much for me. On console you find more than 100 Domination servers at the same time (yeah I know is a game mode where you don´t find as many people as Conquest, but I am the one who chooses what I want to play).

Consoles can´t run something like Quake Champions (my favourite game) or Northgard (awesome Steam indie game). So no point getting a console for those.

Consoles also support Mouse and Keyboard, stop that BS about input method. Google XIM 4.

PC is not objectively better than console, only subjectively, depends on what games you play and what type of experiences you want (single player vs offline). Period. PC is objectively better than consoles on hardware possibilites / performance. Consoles are objectively better than PCs on ease of use and userbase on AAA games. It doesn´t make any platform objectively better than the other on the overall picture. Ditto.

Pc Gaming is not dead, but if you want to play new games with someone without waiting 1/2 hour, you must go with Xbox One / PS4

Wow, that couldn't be more wrong. PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS queues instantly and dumps you into a game with 98 other people. How many crappy console games do 99-person lobbies? Overwatch also queues instantly.

Yeah there are these 10 or so games that do well on PC. The rest is near dead after a few weeks after release.

There will eventually come a day when the desktop computer goes away, but considering the number of old folks that grew up with the desk top, it's going to be around for a few more decades and since these retiree's are the one with the greatest amount of expendable income, the software and hardware folks would be wise to pay attention if they want to rake in the most bucks ......
As PC gaming become cheaper, and consoles become more expensive, as well as more and more similar to a PC, you will see more and more people migrating, or starting out with a computer.
PC gaming is growing ever more relevant as the large crowd of young gamers grow up.

PC gaming becoming cheaper? PC gaming is more expensive than ever right now with all this mining craze. Impossible to get an AMD RX480/580/570/470 for less than 400 bucks, and the nvidia cards went up in price aswell because of that. That statement is pure BS.

PC gaming is as relevant as consoles. PC gaming is growing, just like console gaming is growing (check PS4 records beating any previous console, and Nintendo Switch aswell). Gaming is growing overall, is not an exclusive PC thing. Damn PC fanboys are so annoying with their broken arguments. Both platforms are good and fun to use. Get both to enjoy the best of 2 worlds. Get only one if that´s the one that interests you or goes according to your gamer needs. But stop pretending the one you choose is "better".

Nonsense, Console gaming is not growing. PS4 is not beating previous records. And it will not beat PS2. And if you take this generation as a whole, it's the first gen that's not selling better in a richer world with more people with better access to information. Xbox sales are way down. Wii U has been a failure. Same btw goes to portables. This gen of portables selling a lot less than the last.

Switch had a good start, it will be lucky to match xbox. And even if it did, no way it's gonna sell 100M+, the way Wii did.

Btw, article comparing just one of distribution platforms one month's active users to a whole quarter to xbox. There's what 60M+ million playing hearthstone? Overwatch? WoW? And it's just blizzard's app. Uplay, GoG, etc, piracy..., China...

The PS2 is an anomally, created due to lackluster competition and over a decade on the market. 15+ years of sales add up quick. The wii pandered to a market that no longer exists thanks to smart phones.

The Ps4 is selling quite well, and compared to typical console sales, is doing REALLY well. Dont compare to an anomaly.

Im a pretty heavy xbox one user.

The xbox one had a terrible first year or two - the platform was pretty broken.

Phil spencer came along and fixed alot of things, but the platform is still medicre at best.

Exclusives are far and few (it hurts to watch what PS players get), the dashboard is a NIGHTMARE from most standpoints - its uglier than heck and counterintuitive, even after the several iterations of improvements.

Theres 100000 logisitcal annoyances. You have to be connected to internet to download a bluray player because its not preinstalled - same with CD player, etc. They last year added support for playing music in the backgrounds of your games, but software support for that is terrible. There is no spotify app currently (but rumors are we might finally get it). The store is miserable to navigate, and digitally purchasing backwards compatible 360 games feels like it was hacked in. For sales, game DLCs and currencies get their own listings, so you have to navigate through a sea of 400 different "character packs" or "XXXX points" to find games.

I guess the best way to put it is that the entire platform feels so unpolished. If it werent for my friends I'd have abandoned it already. Im not surprised steam is passing it - I feel like alot of the appeal of console over PC is gone if the simplicity and reliability goes away.
Funny because I am totally happy with my xbox as most people are. I used to be a pc fanboy but not after buying my xbox one. It has so many advantages over the pc.
for my usage it doesnt have a single advantage over PC anymore. not even close really. On a day to day basis using the xbox is generally okay its just not what I would say "good".

http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

There are more than 50 games that have greater than 10,000 peak players in the past 24 hours; and that's only on one platform (Steam). In addition, you have uPlay, Origin, Battle.net, GOG, and more. If you're a kid on a console, you have maybe three or four games per platform that are popular and always populated. If you're lucky.

This doesn't even mention any of the millions of players on popular MMORPGs that are still alive. Ever wonder why console fans never talk about them? Hint: Think about how many MMORPGs are on consoles.

How's that not like the lack of competition that PS2 had? Wii U being a failure and xbox one selling poorly meant PS4 won this generation. Like I said, if you compare gen for gen, this generation is doing really bad, even if PS4 might end up outselling PS3. And that's even with mid cycle half upgrades inflating numbers.

You miss the trend in your effort to discredit succesful consoles of years past. Like I said, world is a lot richer and has more young people now, so this generation, like every other generation before it, should have had no trouble selling more than it's predecessor generation. WHy are you ignoring this?

Are you joking right? ... These talk about "gaming on PC is dead" can much be backed by the sometimes lack of sales of upgrades parts, but take all the PC gamers who plays these low demanding littles that don't need an powerful GPU, and you will have a player that keep a computer for as long as 5 years and may still buy games on a regular basis... Get to know the PC games sales numbers.

Most gamers today are mixed, a lot of them have a basic laptop or decent laptop/ computer to play the PC exclusives that are big like DOTA2 and LOL or CSGO, but most of them play there big AAA titles over on console. I am now more mixed then I use to, growing up I split my time pretty evenly between PS2 and PC, by 2005-2006 I was like 80% PC and that stayed that way until 2015. Now I am split between Xbox one and my massive backlog of PC games I have bought on steam over the last decade.

I've got friends on both PC and consoles. The PC ones are playing CS, LOL, Dota 2, PUBG and Path of Exile. Most of them don't buy more than a game/year. The console friends are playing Destiny, Forza Horizon 3, Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, Fifa 17, Gears of War 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn. Most of AAA games are sold on consoles. The top gaming companies sell better on consoles: Activision, EA, Ubisoft.

I'm talking about AAA titles. They are played on consoles. I think Blizzard AAA are still played on PC. I've played a lot on PC. Now there are lot of people playing MMO on PC. Look at Steam. The top ten list is full of old games: CS, Team Fortress2 , Dota 2, etc... (and PUBG). Look at console list: a lot of new games. But this doesn't matter. Play the games where you feel good!
