Hi All,
I was looking at the Norton Systems Works 2007 software and I almost hit the "checkout button" to purchase it when I thought I had better come back to Tech Spot and try to get some info first.

Is the software worth buying or is it going to be more of a pain then anything?
If not worth it can you guys point me in the direction of a good, user friendly program that does the same things that NSW 07 does??

Define the "same things". Do you really need all of the NSW features? Mind you, something that does everything is good for nothing - you should be looking at specialised programs designed for their specific tasks.

IMHO, the only remotely "worth it" thing in the NSW suite is SpeedDisk - the disk defragmenter. Everything else is just huge useless bloat.

Anything made after 2003 is pure crap and bloatware. NSW after 2003 is so bloated and resource hungry is will bog down your system. There are plenty of free programs that do the same thing. Crap Cleaner is one of them. Fairly decent too.

Diskeeper is far better than speeddisk. And I don't know about NSW 2007, but 2003 NSW speeddisk does not defrag very large hard drives.

Save yourself a lot of $$$ - all you really need is a very reliable Anti-Virus software. Norton used to write the anti-virus bible but according to ZDNet research, other companies like Zone Alarm provided the same protection without all the anchors in the background and for a much better price.
Symantec might make a good defrag utility I have never had any problem using the Windows utility if you run it once a month.
