Tech giants blast Trump order banning certain foreign workers through 2020

Those poor billionaire liberals being forced to hire Americans. It goes against their quest to concentrate the wealth and power at the top.

In general, foreign workers are poor workers. A doctorate degree in science overseas mostly equates to a B.S. degree here in America. I have worked with many Chinese and Indian M.S./PhD's scientists over the decades - without exception they are WEAK in knowledge, ability and communication skills.

The American Dream hasn't been a thing in America for at least 50yrs, that I agree.

It seems to be this fantasy of people have who come here from other countries expecting a better life. For those who do come here to look for a better life, they probably find it because conditions in America are still far better than they are in many other countries in the world.

He's probably in college to study fermentation.

I work for a company in the US that has, for years, been trying to find qualified people for highly skilled jobs - software engineering that requires some knowledge of physics and math. However, they are not out there at any price (note that our company has not resorted to hiring anyone with this type of visa to make up the difference). I really hate to say it, however, many of them are exactly as pictured in the post by @krizby They don't give a crap about anything other than where their next brew comes from.

For some positions, my company at one point restarted apprenticeships until trade wars came into play. So while some think those wars are the bee's knees, they have had an effect on companies like mine who were trying to hire and train American workers.

I am sure this next comment will draw the ire of some, but Trump is playing to his base again with this. It will not help one bit.
This was my understanding of the situation too with skilled visas. And he's definitely playing to his base.

I cannot imagine that a doctorate in science from China compares to a bachelor's degree in the US. Hyperbole surely. Btw I teach English to scientists from some of the best universities in China. The weak in communication skills (meaning English presumably) part, I can fully believe though.

From personal experience I was let go of a system migration job for Alcon Laboratory's in 2012 because they where paying me and another 2 guys 17hr to do the XP to 7 migration. One Christmas day I got the call I'd be training my replacement, they hired 3 h1b visa workers at 10hr. Was it illegal sure, did the government act on my complaint nope. Alcon fired American workers for 3 visa works, saving themselves 21hr on pay and I'd bet a fair amount on other taxes also.

I fully support this move, you get fired while having Christmas dinner and see if you support the visa system
That sucks. Sorry mate. I worked in British Aerospace as a cleaner for a week once before university. The older cleaners told me that they used to get somewhere around 20 pounds an hour for working there. Then their positions were outsourced to Serco and they were paid 10 pounds or less (I forget the exact numbers). So there are multiple ways they can find to screw people over.

Yes but in DFW in 2012 when this happened the going rate for this type of job was 16-21hr, no one would have taken it for 10 except for a Visa worker, so that's what they did.

Well American president should look after American people first don't you agree?

And apparently the US instantly can replace those H-1B visa workers?
Why haven't they already done that?
Luckily the president himself is highly skilled, he has 'knowledge' of about everything (healthcare, medications, tech, you name it) and doesn't need advice of anyone else

This article though

They are more selective by raising the bar for those highly inteligent and skilled people.

Imo, America was not created by leaders, but by people. People and their dreams decided the course of America in a time of great turmoil across the nations.

Think about it. If the bar is raised even more, is just brilliant. There are so many beautiful highly inteligent people out there, that are also very comunicative and with high EQ, that would make any other nation envy of having the language barrier, while english is so easy and spread (there are supposedly 6500 languages on earth.

So, by any means, be more selective and get those teachers, doctors, and academics to find a better life, but make sure they are not joining the freaking wild wild west, though.
