Tesla's new Roadster can fly, drive upside down, and hit 60 mph in under 0.6 seconds

E.g., Ferraris can do 200+ MPH (but not legally) but are street legal vehicles.
Go for it on the German autobahn, it's legal in the land of the feel free to go really fricking fast.
(414kmh, is 257mph)

First of all, the government controls the air above you so you're not flying anything short of having a pilot's license. In the United States, single-seat ultralight aircraft that weigh under 254 pounds and meet specific Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules under Part 103 do not require a pilot's license, medical exam, or aircraft registration. The car weights more than that (obviously).
Well first, Controlled airspace doesn't begin until 500' AGL. (Granted you still have to register drones over a certain weight.)

However, my biggest question would be, "WTF the rockets are using for fuel"?

Recharging electric cars is enough of an issue, let alone having to replace them every time you use then, (solid fuel), or recharging LOX fueled boosters.

Of course, musk is big on methane. Maybe he'll provide a funnel for the driver to fart in after each "flight".

What immediately came to mind is the potential for this technology as an active safety system in the future. Imagine a car detecting an unavoidable collision and using its thrusters to briefly lift itself or alter its trajectory to avoid the impact entirely. Basically, an emergency maneuver that goes beyond braking or steering. It sounds like science fiction, but this video makes the concept look surprisingly convincing. I wonder if this could eventually become a real safety feature rather than just a performance gimmick.

FAA controlled airspace begins at various altitudes depending on the class of airspace.

  • Class A Airspace: Starts at 18,000 feet above mean sea level (MSL) up to 60,000 feet.
  • Class B Airspace: Extends from the surface up to 10,000 feet MSL, typically surrounding major airports.
  • Class C Airspace: Begins at the surface and extends up to 4,000 feet above the airport elevation.
  • Class D Airspace: Also starts at the surface and goes up to 2,500 feet above the airport elevation.
  • Class E Airspace: Can begin at the surface or at 700 or 1,200 feet above ground level (AGL), depending on the specific area and its requirements.

LOL, guess they could use class G airspace like I do for my drones.

Obviously this thing would be DECADES away. Musk always the showman. Nothing wrong with that, he's good at it. At least he's always trying to come up with something new. Everyone thought he couldn't land a rocket booster but he did it multiple times. They said you can't catch a rocket booster, he did that too.
Could you imagine the look on the face of the NHTSA if this thing rolled into their office for certification?

Musk will probably try to figure out a way to bottle his own farts, and sell them to those dumb enough to buy one of these cars. That is, if this thing ever hits the market.

Just put "Apple" on the bottle and it will sell out in seconds at $200 a pop. :D

But it is an impressive leap. Teslas flying off a track instead of parts flying off a Tesla.
