Thanks TechSpot guys and gal.. MS.NET.Framework was stopping my use of *standby* mode.

Seems one can remove, [control panel - Add & Remove programs], NET.Framework with no dire consequences.

Now I can use *Standby* again and if NET.Framework is required by some routine, it can be downloaded as required. Hopefully a version that does not interfere with other functions like *Standby*.
