It’s supply and demand. The 5060Ti is a better card for running local LLMs therefore it costs about the same as the 9070XT which is worse for that case.
It’s also a weird comparison point as the 5060Ti has never been a good value for gaming even at MSRP. The 9060XT is a much better value card and the 8GB model is actually usable on boards that aren’t PCIE 5.0.
Plus the 9060XT 16GB when prices were somewhat reasonable was closer to the 8GB 5060Ti than the 16GB model.

It's more like 90/10. Me and my wife both do pretty well but we have stopped going out. 5 years ago we would be considered wealthy. Now we argue about what veggies to buy at Aldi's. It also doesn't help that our health insurance for 2027 is going up to $38,000. Which it was under 15 just 2 years ago for us and our daughter

I bought my RTX 5060ti 16GB for $375 shortly after it launched (it was a sale). Maybe Jensen Huang was right, the more I would have bought the more I would have saved...
Get a better job if it is that much, as I only pay maybe $150/mo for my side of the Health Insurance.

Depends on conditions and required medication doesn’t it.
Personally I pay nothing for healthcare as I live in a country that isn’t stuck in the 1700’s.
Consider moving to the UK or Europe in general. If you have skills that are in demand then life can be fairly good over here. I suspect it's going to get a lot worse in the US in the coming years.

Hold on here - Mwave is still a site you can buy things from? What year is it?
Years ago for me it was TigerDirect and Mwave as my go to for online computer part purchases. Then newegg muscled their way in while TD faded away and pretty much died a decade ago (even though I think the company finally shut down just a handful of years ago) and I thought Mwave also went the way of the dodo.
I don't even care about the GPU comparison (we already know 9070 XT blows the 5060Ti out of the water for gameplay, that's just a gimmie), I'm just blown away that Mwave is still a place to buy from.

I didn't read the whimpering review but one of the many false statements made about the 16GB version of the 5060Ti is that is doesn't have enough power to truthfully use that much VRAM and there are few statements on this site that are dumber than that and thats saying something.
There's plenty of games that utilize 10-14GB of VRAM that run great on a 5060Ti, and don't need major horsepower to run like Diablo 4 and Forza Horizon 5. The 5060Ti 16GB runs both at 1080p/1440p on high-ultra settings very well. For 128-bit lightweight that runs on a 600W PSU the 5060Ti is fantastic.
There's plenty of games that utilize 10-14GB of VRAM that run great on a 5060Ti, and don't need major horsepower to run like Diablo 4 and Forza Horizon 5. The 5060Ti 16GB runs both at 1080p/1440p on high-ultra settings very well. For 128-bit lightweight that runs on a 600W PSU the 5060Ti is fantastic.
AMD CPUs met or exceeded Intel levels of quality and performance way back when the Opteron was released in 2003.
Not sure why everyone is fussing about this article. The author clearly just tried to have some fun with comparing the two cards, instead of the dry, pure technical. Don't over think it. I thought it was a nice change.

For AI you are correct. For gaming, I have to disagree. I owned nothing but Nvida for 20 years. I got a great deal on a 9700 XT a few months back, it has been flawless on all of the top AAA games and everything else I throw at it. The 9700 series is not AMD of old. The new GPU series does almost everything Nvidia can do, including ray tracing. All at a fraction of the price. That is kind of the whole point of the article.

In the article "Test System Specs," you claimed the card in question was the "RTX 5070 Ti 16GB," I assume that "5070" was a typo for "5060." Just FYI.
The AI argument is also odd simply because while CUDA has historically been a defacto requirement for local AI in the past, AMD's software stack has improved massively in the past year to the point that for the sort of general purpose local LLM AI use that someone considering buying a 5060Ti would be interested in, the 9070 is equally plug and play, and performs better as well.
To me the only explanation is consumer ignorance, which I guess means AMD marketing is the issue. Nvidia has become synonymous with AI, and non-tech literate people assume that only nvidia hardware can do local AI (a lot of local AI users knowledge of AI stops as 1. Download LM Studio/Unsloth, 2. Download model of the month from Hugging Face, 3. Vibe code slop).
The challenge for AMD is that the AI = Nvidia narrative has become so entrenched in mainstream media that cutting through is akin to shouting into a tornado. It is good for us gamers at least.

Bought a mint 3080 ftw3 in box for $370 now ,and a 2080ti for $200 4 months ago for my other pc and im set for the next 3+ years
just like I got a used 5950x for $250. I always let others pay the massive price tag then grab it 2-3 gens later for a good discount. including phones.
I think phones are far worse investment. people paying $1000+ where its worth 1/3 that 3 years later. a gpu will hold its value longer.
