The TV industry just had its worst quarter ever as over 1 million customers cut the cord

Television company owners, what was the last time you tried to watch a twenty minute TV episode stretched into 45 minutes due to ads? You are probably wondering whats going wrong, well it is all right you don't know what's wrong because no sane person would try watching a 20 minute episode with 25 minutes worth of ads.

I was with DirecTV (dish) for over 20 years. When I built my house in the country, there was no cable TV or internet. So I went with DirecTV. I talked to them over the years to get my subscription reduced but they only gave me reduced billing for e.g. 6 months. Over time, I reduced the channels to reduce the costs, big surprise.

At the time I was ready to move on, I called again. I asked don't you give any loyal customers, 20years, a discount. No...only short term breaks. So I went to Dish, that isn't any different, sad to say. Sure stated out low for the promotion period, now they are as expensive, or more, than DirecTV.

I'm considering going to a streaming service when the latest promotion ends.

As the article said, they just don't get. The infrastructure has to be paid for by now.

For anyone interested, there is a free streaming service for OTA TV in some big city (US) markets. Here is an article about it that gives the link. - https://www.avsforum.com/locast-nonprofit-offers-free-local-tv-streaming/
VERY limited coverage -- not even Los Angeles is available :(

My Internet & VoIP are via cable with great bandwidth and that comes at a cost. While we enjoy Netflix too, that does not give local coverage eg: the fires and road closures affecting evacuation routes -- now that's a BIG issue. Not all decisions are based upon costs.
