Top 5 Worst GPUs: Hall of Shame, Part Two

What, no mention of the GeForce G84/G86 chips, or is that too old? The chip so bad and was known for so many failures. Here's a little flashback: https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1028703/all-nvidia-g84-g86s-bad

Ok, so it may be from the previous decade, but still somewhat relevant when talking about the worst GPUs I think. At least I'm not bringing up any Trident cards or anything...

Hey, leave Trident out of this LOL. My first 3d accelerator was a Trident Blade 3D and it let me play Half-Life, Quake 2, Unreal, Mario64 (Corn emulator) and other games, and for the price it ran them at decent speeds. The only weird thing is that in some games, the objects were rendered slightly transparent LOL.

Terrible article showing the noobishness of the author and just how new he is to the industry. Terrible short sightedness missed out on some of the most awful GPUs in PC history like the Voodoo Rush, FX 5800, Rage Fury Maxx, and other just god awful chipsets that either barely worked, didn't work at all, or worked so awfully as to not qualify as working at all! Geforce 4 MX, or even Radeon 8500, all terrible failures or misleading generations, and you missed the whole lot of terrible cards before any of these even existed and made most of the one you listed look like top GPUs instead of the worst...

And you missed out on the point of the article.

Edit: @Steve you guys need to put a time frame in the title. I know that won't stop everyone, but maybe it will curb some of them. Maybe then they won't bring in the 80's/90's crap.

Wouldn't even have to be in the title. Could just be in the 1st couple of paragraphs, so that people that actually read the full articles wouldn't just spout off.

Oh wait...@Steve already did that, & they still managed to question his choices, even though he explicitly gave his timeframe.

<from the 2nd paragraph>

Today we're going to do something a little different just for fun and look at the top 5 worst CPUs released in the last few years. <emphasis added>

But that's alright, I'm finding that by lowering my expectations on people's reading comprehension, I'm less & less surprised by their reactions...

Radeon R600. Aka HD 2900.

AMD/ATi needed a response to the 8800GTX series. X1950XTX was the best they had and the 8800 was twice as fast on modern games after a couple months of driver refinements, but it only cost $150 more. R600 was due around the same time, but ended up being delayed 6 months. By then Nvidia had yet another surprise waiting in the wings, the 8800 ultra.

So HD 2900XT drags it rotten corpse onto the scene and proceeds to not only get demolished by the 8800GTX and Ultra on most titles, it barely stands up to the third tier 8800GTS. It runs hotter, the coolers are bad and it draws more power than the Ultra.....

IIRC it was priced roughly against the 8800GTS, but by that time you could get a 8800GTX for not much more.

It didn't get much better later that year either. Nvidia launched the hammer blow in late 2007- the 8800GT. That card was one of the all time greats. Like 90 percent of 8800GTX performance for half the price. It beat up the 2900XT and was like $150 less lol

The GeForce MX440 was the worst card I ever owned.

I am just waiting for the insane comments to come. Getting popcorn and whisky

Whisky with popcorn is already as insane as it gets. You don't need us.

And thank you for the article, telling me that my GTX 780 is the worst card ever. After nearly 4 years of its flawless performance, this is all I really needed to know.

Popcorn had a bit of honey on it so went well with whisky........ I did fall asleep however

And if you recall the 460 was embarrassingly slow.

Hey hey :(. Easy that stings. I have a RX 460. I was on a budget. It was a bit pricey for what you get although I have not had any trouble running anything on it yet (I don't do hardcore gaming, just emulators and some steam games). Had I known though, what would've happened with the prices of all these GPU's after this mining fiasco, I would have bought myself a 480 and been done with it.

My fav examples of recent years:

GTX480 reference. Blew everyones minds with the performance, but holy **** the temperatures, noise, and power consumption. Card was pulling in excess of spec sheet watts, temps below 90C were unheard of, and SLI users had actual melting going on.

GTX465: from memory, a severely cut down version of a GTX470 that performed worse on average than the cheaper GTX460. No review site I know of could work out why 465 even existed - it just made no sense in the lineup with price or performance.

"Today Kepler-based GPUs have become so nurfed in modern games they’re no longer worth even buying."
Nurfed? Did you mean to say nerfed?

I do not understand the criticism of these GPU's. At 1080p my 780 is still going strong. Recently I played RE6, Resident Evil remake, Sonic Generations, Witcher 3 and they all played just fine. Which games are "nerfing" the gtx 780?

I own a R9 285 Asus Strix card damn fine card for what it is it replaced 2x HD7850 1GB cards in xfire and actually out performed them by a good margin so made the hundy bucks (second hand) I paid for it worth while indeed

Top 5 worst GPUs for Millenials more like! These cards really aren’t that bad at all - especially the 780, how that’s here and the whining overpriced underperforming Fury X isn’t is baffling! But you want a bad graphics card pickup a GeForce FX5200 and watch it crash when running half life 2 when running at 800x600!

A friend has a GTX 780 and it performs really bad in today's games, he's just waiting to get enough money to get rid of it.
