Hello, I am new to TecSpot. I only have notebooks and this one has no sound. How should I trouble shoot this.
Thanks for your help

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Check in your device manager. see if there are any yellow exclamation, or question marks. Make sure the volume isn`t muted.

Go to the Toshiba website, and download the sound drivers for your computer.

Install them, and see what happens.

Thanks for the info,

Yes there is a multi Media driver ? yellow indicator in the Device Manager.
( This is a Pre Owned Notebook with the hard drive Re formatted)

I went to the Toshiba site for the s1 specs and fount that it is an ADI
ad1886 software sound.
So then I downloaded from toshiba the ADI Sound Max wdm Audio driver.
( Also installed Win zip and Acrobat reader)

Still no sound. It is not muted and the sound dial is set at medium.

Could it be a hardware defect? Where is it located in the Notebook?

Thanks for any help

Leo

Since you installed the sound drivers(presuming you installed the correct ones), is there still a yellow exclamation mark in your device manager?

Your soundcard is integrated into your mobo.

It is possible that your onboard sound chip is dead.

Regards Howard :)
