Trump calls for an end to the Chips Act, redirecting funds to national debt

- His coffers don't mean much if the global economy implodes. Can't eat the numbers on a balance sheet.
he only understands real estate not global economics. they are beyond his scope

I actually have family members who have dealt with him in NYC and with people who worked in his first cabinet. The guy is *****, even the NYC bankers who had to bankrupt his NJ casinos said he lacked "even a basic knowledge on how finance worked"

China will take Taiwan sooner rather than later. Even TSMC realizes this, hence their investment in America.

-So why should Taiwan allow TSMC to build fabs in America?

If China is going to take Taiwan, then Taiwan is going to take the global economy with it.

CHIPs is a benefit to the US because we paid TSMC a small bit to build some fabs in the US so we have a domestic supply chain.

It's not nearly enough to support global demand if China takes Taiwan and won't ever be.

Clinton largely had a republican congress which tends to reduce spending as the parties fight more and spend less. Still we've increased government with every president since then as republicans abandoned "smaller" government.

Unless we end social security or medicare/medicaid, there are no trillion dollar savings in the budget. I will take reducing government by hundreds of billions in the meantime. Not that I necessarily believe this reduction will actually occur, but arguing that saving $280 Billion is poo because the debt is so big is nonsensical.
And arguing that firing government employees is going to drastically save money and cut the national debt is nonsense.

Just like asking DOGE, aka Musk/Trusk, to provide proof of the supposed savings they are "winning" is nonsense.

Economists on both sides of the aisle are convinced that what Trusk/DOGE is doing is going to cost the government (TAXPAYERS) more in the long run.

That's what happens when the clueless are elected and those elected clueless appoint clueless citizens to find savings in the government.

Yes. Go right ahead. End medicare/medicaid/social security. Unless you find a replacement for those programs, the Trumpists will never be elected again.

I'm surprised he had that much. 🤣

It's quite transparent really if you listen closely.

He needs to cut costs to be able to bring the effective tax rate on his oligarch billionaire buddies down even further. They didn't buy him for nothing.

Of course, plundering the government balance sheet directly led to his push for a debt ceiling increase of 4 trillion dollars.

His voters can carry the burden of the price increases caused by tariffs. And we'll take away their Medicaid and food stamps. What're they gonna do? They're just losers anyway.

It couldn't possibly be that his motivation is exactly what he said, huh? You sound like QAnon. Not everything is a conspiracy against you. The simplest solution tends to be the most likely, especially when what's stated makes reasonable economic sense.

He's right.

If anyone paid attention to Intel doing it's shopping in Europe, trying to get the best subsidized deal, if I want to have my store somewhere I need to pay things like rent and what more. No goverment subsidizing my movement into a certain city either.

a business like TSCM can easily afford or let alone intel with their cashflow to build a fab themselfs.

"They're just losers anyway." Ahhh the good ol' 'basket of deplorables' play. Works so well every time.

By 'billionaires', do you mean the ones who gave to Kamala 2:1 over Trump? Or do you really believe that all those people sitting in the box seats at the DNC rally, looking down at the unwashed masses, were just steel workers from Pennsylvania? Because I know a ton of steel workers who flew there in their G700's LOL.

It's funny how Democrats went from the party of peace, free speech and worker's rights to endless wars, justifying corporate profits (booster after mRNA booster), blatant political censorship and importing millions of cheap laborers to undercut worker's wages... ALL under the guise of 'compassion'.

And we haven't touched social causes:)

Trump comparing his admin to that of George Washington, the man that said "I cannot tell a lie" was rich.

Funny. In the 2019 debates, Biden told 'untruths', 'exaggerations' and 'misspoke', while Trump LIEEEED, at least according the 'fact checkers' at CNN LOL. And no, I'm not lying, misspeaking, exaggerating or speaking an untruth. That's literally how they portrayed the debate. You know the one where Joe Biden pulled out his '51 former intel experts' ace of spades card? And while, ironically, that statement that 51 experts said what they did was true (even though the statement itself was bs), you and I and everyone else knows damn well that he called his crackhead ***** of a son and was like, "Hey d*psh*t, is that laptop yours?" And the response was, "Well *sniff sniff*, you know Pop *sniff*, maybe. *sniffffffff* "Whoooooooo!!! Let's go!!!! Call ya' later."

So yeah. Kinda don't care if DT gets some facts wrong, when Biden gave 3 stump speeches where he said that he was running for the US Senate and was a brain dead vegetable his entire time as Commander in Chief (and your MEDIA lied about it the entire time).

One their own, they would only create a small fab. Just to have some backup and to please politicians. Without the risk of losing the billions of financial/material and immaterial support from the Taiwan government.

With the CHIPS act, the US tried to get decent capacity in the US. For when TSMC Taiwan is destroyed or taken over. And of course companies tried to get as much out of it for their shareholders. That's what they always try. Get 'the best deal' (like someone else also wants).

Seriously just because all Politicians lie doesn't make it okay for Trump to do it, too. It's a stupid excuse. "You're media lied about it the entire time" except when they called for Biden to step aside. Biden's actions didn't effect me or my friend's careers while Trump's actions have. There doesn't seem to be any stability in the entire country anymore. That is Trump's doing. Trump lying about the things he's done does matter, because he is the president right now. No politician should get any slack, ever, on what they've said or what they've done and what they say should be held to a higher standard and not a lower one. It's never okay for any politician to make promises they don't have the power to keep or never intended to keep.

Just the fact that you state this already contradicts your message.

Anyway, as a citizen of a EU-state, I am more than happy to live here. I would never trade in my current life (and that of my family), with living in the US. Despite the issues we have here, we are not governed by corporations (that don't care about the citizens), we also have media that at least try to be objective, affordable healthcare & education, decent food, a better work-life balance, (still) less polarization, (still) more equality, etc.

There are reasons why Trump, Putin, etc. don't like the EU: despite many shortcomings this is a great place to live that attracts and inspires many people. And that does not fit with authoritarian leadership and a totalitarian vision on society.

If you don't believe me, just watch the numerous testimonials of Americans that have lived or are living in Europe.
OK, so you are not governed by Corporation? (What Country is..?)

Were you born in Europe? Ovr the past 40 years, I've been to Europe 8 times. We are talking about in RECENT times, how Ursula & Globalist elites with the George Soros agenda, started their social engineering and censorship (authoritarian) rule... to hide from Europeans citizens what Globalists are doing with cheap labor and allowing a mass invasion into Europe. Offering free everything in the name of Equity, because other nations are poor, therefore English speaking nations must work the rest of their lives, supporting these people being funneled into Europe/America by George Soros.

Again, Countries within the EU are not allowed to be themselves, or have an National identity. They are ruled by Globalists now, who attack their own people using media lies and PAID demonstrators via George Soros. (See Hungary)

THE ONLY reason the European Union takes flack from American Citizens is because of their lack of patriotism for their own Countries.

The EU Citizens are controlled and governed by thought police. Europeans are not free to have their own thoughts or ideas, only the approved narratives handed down by the Globalist Elites, unless you will get a knock at your door from the gestapo.

Europe didn't use to be like that, but most younger Euros have no idea, because they lost their own identity & backbone.

I predict the EU will fold within the next 10 years, because these Elites will not be able to hide the truth much longer from the Euro citizens. Too much pressure from the US Leaders for transparency within EU leadership and to get ride of globalist corruption.

Politico and Associated Press are part of the corruption.

I understand that emotions can run high when discussing politics, as these topics often touch on ones beliefs. However, its important to keep the conversation respectful and productive for everyone here on TS. Both Democrats and Republicans (and people from all over the world) care about what is going on here in the US.

Instead of arguing and trying to change others minds, let’s try to find common ground and discuss this topic in a way that makes your point. It’s possible to disagree without attacks on other forum members and the bad orange man. Be more constructive and respectful. Cmon, we are all a part of a group, is this how you all act towards your family if they disagree? If so, then I will wait for the forum ban hammer to close this thread.

OT
Remember that the legislation for CHIPs was designed to boost domestic semiconductor production, reduce reliance on foreign supply chains, and create jobs here at home.

The idea that semiconductor companies should take on more of the financial burden makes sense, especially since they stand to benefit the most from an increase in domestic production. Ideally, these companies would invest in their own infrastructure to help meet demand, rather than relying heavily on taxpayer funding.

I think there is a middle ground, one that every one can agree to. But you have to admit, the spending has to stop unless it is a benefit to the tax payers of this country.

For you guys across the pond...
Attacking our citizens and elected president isn’t helpful, especially when you’ve got your own issues to deal with. We all have room for improvement, so let’s focus on constructive dialogue instead of tearing each other down.

Just a thought.

Go take a look at the fact check for Trump's Tuesday address to congress. LIterally everything he said was a misrepresentation.

Like I previously said, Trump comparing his administration to George Washington's administration is ludicrous; remember, George Washington, as history states, literally said "I cannot tell a lie" when confronted about chopping down a tree. Trump literally cannot tell the truth, and all you have to say is criticize someone who's known to have a speech impediment and try to equate that to Trump?

As much as I don't like Trump, I feel sorry for him. He is so disconnected from reality that he has to invent that "his administration is the greatest in US history - second only to George Washington's administration." Trump is a lost and broken man still trying to please he long dead, God rest his soul, Daddy.

All Trump knows how to do is divide and alienate those who are friends of the US and US citizens.

If the US survives his administration in any semblance of its former self, his administration, like his first term, will be remembered by historians as one of the worst, if not the worst, in US history much to his dismay.

The only reason that Trump wants to kill the Chips Act is so that he can claim any successes that might have been accomplished by the act. In fact, at least some in his own party do not support his ridiculous call to rescind the act. - https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5178662-trump-chips-act-repeal-gop-senators/

If Trump's complaint is that companies do not use the money as intended, then the smart thing, IMO, to do is to fix the oversight process that is being abused by the companies that abuse it. Instead, Trump sees it as a game of wack-a-mole and thinks his tariffs, that US Citizens and US Companies are paying, will resolve the issue when it takes money away from the very companies that would or could solve the problem.

And again, note my post about Micron in Central NY that IS using the money AS INTENDED. You cannot blame EVERY company for the faults of policies because a few companies abuse programs like this. Legislators can fix this, but Trump throwing the baby out with the bath water will never fix this.

Allow me to explain to you, how clueless you are.

In the United States: Federal Employees are paid by the Tax Payers.
These Tax Payers who pay these Federal Employee salaries are the same people who work 60 hours a week in factories in detroit, or the steel workers in pennsylvania who work 84 hours/week, or the Garbage Collectors who are outside in 0* weather picking up trash, or the Truck drivers, or Teachers, or Engineers, or the Farmers, or Ranchers, etc...

We The People... could care less, that some smug entitled government worker who got fired from their kush job, for not showing up for work, etc..

Secondly, that is why DOGE has an extremely high 70% approval rating. Coincidentally, since the election Donald Trump's approval rating is increasing and it's getting bigger because even Democratic voters are seeing how corrupt many of their Politicians are and now exposed.... and DOGE keeps gaining in popularity and it only keeps getting better and better.

So Wiyosaya, you go right ahead and keep lying about social security & medicaid/medicare and regurgitating a false narratives created by radical leftists, it only illustrates that you are behind an information wall.

You fail to understand a basic principal in checkbook keeping, if u eliminate waste from your spending... then you have MORE money for essentials, like medicaid/medicare. You are attempting to spread false-fear, because you do not have facts.

Here are some facts:

Allow me to explain to you, how clueless you are.

Go back and listen to Trump's speech again. He literally said that Social Security HELPS people who deserve it.

And arguing that firing government employees is going to drastically save money and cut the national debt is nonsense.
Firing government employees does save money just like in the private sector.

3+ million people on the payroll + office space/overhead + whatever they are doing is spending more taxpayer money.

Vivek once suggested firing anyone with an odd last digit SS# and even second to last digit SS# as an easy and unbiased way to reduce the parasitic jobs by 75%. I personally think it's better to just to shut down whole agencies like in Argentina. Their economy is turning around faster than anyone outside of Austrian economics would have predicted.
