The biggest problem I have about this story and the comments is this: You don't think this is going to work, then fine. But most of the comments are more about rooting for this to happen because the orange man deserves it.
The situation is this: We have outsourced making literally everything. To look at the computer case issue, in 2000, we smelted just over 30%of the world's supply of aluminum. By 2020, we lost 15 smelters, and as of 2024 we now have just 2 operating in the country. Why, energy prices skyrocketed by design, as we attacked our energy production as bad, without having a viable solution BEFORE we abandoned what we had. Smelting requires electricity. How did Canada increase so fast? The government subsidized the power companies to cut the smelters electricity prices.
Aluminum is just one of the strategic things we're no longer doing, pharmaceuticals, lithium, cars, etc.
America will lose the next war without a shot being fired, China will just cut us off if we don't surrender.
So given all of that, and what Trump is doing will raise the price of our toys without solving that problem, what exactly IS the solution to our self imposed suicide pact? How about some solutions instead of "anything but that".
