So many people are gonna put their computer in for this contest that people prolly have a better chance of being hit by a hot air balloon full of cats.

First good luck to all contenders! cant enter yet since im not in the country region yet..still can atleast vote and interact with the forum :D

true..thats common on giveaways.. ppl that dont need one come for the grabs and the ones that need it just fall out of it.but thats the way it goes I guess..we might have but its never enough is it? :(

Dakota's PC gets my vote for the upgrade. It is the most sensible in terms of "getting one up and about", the 6300 definitely needs replacing.

sad thing is, their FX is newer than my qx6700 by like 5 years :p
haha true.. well atleast you got 4cores..im in a similar state. I got an phenom II X4 955..so yea I know the pain XD and funny thing fx are kinda "sh!t" but they where what killed phenoms

yea the 4 cores is the only reason I can play any games right now, even if its just mid-high at 20-30fps

Great idea - and I might get an idea as to how to upgrade mine in the process (even if I don't get shortlisted)

What I find appalling though is people voting to upgrade a case that I would never consider purchasing because I don't have the money to consider it. It is hard to think of them worthy, when I can plainly see they are capable of the upgrade themselves.
How can you see they are capable of the upgrade themselves? Purely based on the quality of other components used? Maybe they scrimped and saved everything they could to be able to afford the build. Maybe they don't spend money in other areas of their lives that others do. Those entering don't provide a financial portfolio and details of their household income with their submission so other than a superficial evaluation of which is most "worthy" there is not enough information to truly pick the one most deserving. Perhaps wording the competition voting as "most deserving" isn't the best choice. Remove "deserving" and just have "the system you'd most like to see upgraded"?

I agree what your saying to a point though, you basically suggested to every build a new mobo/cpu/ram combo at witch thats pretty much building core of a new PC

But all in all put in my vote good luck to the contenders

what steve means is if its way to old like p4 or a core2 or so...so nothing really can be saved cuz the case will have bad airflow the psu will be old and under powered, the hdd is slow and so on..so your basically building a new one. the pcs voted can upgrade like keep case, hdd, psu, gpu. ditch mobo, ram and so on

Hey Old Boy here thought I'd let yous know I went ahead and bit the bullet on the ATX Mobo (Gigabyte GA-Z68P-DS3) for the i5-2500k, I'll be updating my PC entry with more pics when it comes :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but <any PC> gets hammered by compute intensive work like rendering, finite element based stress/deformation/thermal simulation etc.
For that reason there is a market for workstations that is very well and kicking using platform as the new Threadripper and Core i9/Xeon.

Thanks for all the votes everyone! It's a close race and it's getting suspenseful! This has been a treat to watch and be apart of - no matter who wins. I am happy to see some people out there into music production that understand the struggle my FX6300 has >-< - Dakota

spoiler: I voted yours :)

that is not that true.. you dont need a threadriper for rendering/video editing.. if you look it up you will see that lots of ppl use ryzen 5/7 (and down to 3) to render an have no problems(you can also ask steve) threadriper just has more pci lanes, quad channel ram(8 dimms) and has a little more for multitasking (gaming wile rendering and downloading stuff etc)
