USB Flash Drive inaccessible

I have been using Verbatim 2 GB Flash Drive. While using on someone's laptop, I was told that it can be taken off if OS is XP professional. My co-worker pulled it out without stopping the device.
USB still worked fine in my laptop that day. But the next day, on plugging in USB slot, it would not display as 'E' drive.
when I check thru 'add Hardware' in control panle, it indicates that the device is working fine.
I checked on web if driver is an issue. While searching for it, I could find driver for 98 only.
Any suggestions, how I can make my USB drive working again?

No, it is not OK to pull out USB drives. Yes, XP has some extra measures in place to prevent data loss, but you cannot count on them.

The flash drive should be usable again after reformatting.

Thanks

Can you please advise how we should format the drive, since when it is attached to USB port, it is not recognized and there is no icon for this flash drive?

read the FAQs in this forum and also in the guides section. NEVER hotswap a flash drive.
