Valve announces new game 'Artifact' and fans lose their minds

I don't understand how Valve has remained relevant for so long. They haven't released a single title worth a second glance since the HL series as far as I'm concerned. In fact the HL franchise was the ONLY games from them that ever interested me (and probably many others). I guess they do have their loyals though that keep them floated.

Relevancy is irrelative when you have tons of money from running Steam. -15% off, -60% off, -40% off, etc .. you know the drill. All the sales and discounts and the money just flows in like a wide river. Why dev games anymore when its no longer your core business ? The game dev that Valve does has become more of a hobby, some side projects to do when not maintaining the river of money flowing in their direction.

Also, Valve has pretty small developer teams that work on Dota and CSGO respectively. They are hands off from both of those games meaning when something happens they won't intervene unless it's really neccessary like teams throwing games for skins in CSGO and such, they don't push their political agenda as well. I respect them more than any other company in gaming industry for being so unbiased and using common sense and so do many other people, that's why they are respected and successful. I probably sound like a fanboy right now, oh well...

They don't need a huge array of IP's anyway. They are Steam itself and that's probably where 99.9% of their profit comes from.
