If you are asking about just plain anti-virus protection then you would be better off with AVG. It is a free product that uses less system resources compared to Norton and McAfee.

I have had pretty good luck with Panda AntiVirus. I think they are based out of Australia. It's not free, but it comes with a firewall, among other things. The tech support is also very prompt, so you could check them out. However, AVG is the best plain free virus program, I agree.
