Windows Live Messenger "voice call" crashes

  1. Hi, im on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with specs:
CPU: 1.80ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Motherboard: Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset
Ram Speed, size and #sticks: 1.79ghz 2.0gb ram
GPU: 256mb Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT
PSU (do not leave this out): Default?
    OS: Windows XP SP 2

Anyway, whenever i try to use the Voice call function of Windows Live messenger, the computer locks up. I do not get an error screen, everything just becomes non-responsive and eventually I get the "event beep" if I continue to press anything. Only solution is to hit the power button to restart. The event log doesnt seem to show anything regarding this.

I have tried getting new sound/voice drivers, bios, windows updates, messenger updates but nothing seems to have solved the problem.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks
