Windows logo over globe appearing in toolbar

Since this morning the Windows logo over the windows globe icon has been appearing next to my speaker icon at the bottom of my screen. It adds an additional icon every 20 seconds or so. They disapear when I run my curser over them.

Sounds to me like windows update is running on your system, which is a good thing.

Yeah, I finally realized that this was the update icon. I've been heavily into this stuff for over 10 years and can't believe I didn't know what I was looking at, BUT---Why do they keep on filling my task bar?? I've seen as many as 30 update icons plastering the task bar and I've counted 9 since I started writing this reply.
