windows recovery does not load

i need help!!!!! my windows xp home will not load the recovery console from the cd. It get all the way to "setup is starting windows" then nothing happens
what can i do???

when the welcome to setup appears when booting from the disk press R

this can happen if the hard drive is dying.
Reboot, select repair as suggested by archie123 and then try running fixmbr.
If this fails, try manufacturer diagnostics and a low level format.
