XP/2000 HD Dilemma

Okay, here's my problem. I have a new computer running XP (NTFS), but not connected through a ribbon cable. It's connected through the new kind, I just don't remember the name for it.

My old computer still works fine, I just want to upgrade. SO:

I moved my old HD (using ribbon IDE) over, and booted up from XP. I then plugged my old HD in and it recognized it.

BUT:

It's not mounted, and I'm afraid if I "convert/initialize" it, then my data will either be erased, or not accessable.

The reason I want to keep my old HD is because it's nicer to have two HDs and the older one still has all my files.

PS. And, if it's possible, I'd like to make it dual-boot.

Can someone help me please?

If your Secondary IDE channel has a ribbon cable, hook your old harddrive up as Master and jumper your CD RIVE as a slave to it. Do not hook them up opposite this or you may have problems
