YouTube bans anti-vaccine misinformation on its platform

How does YouTube know what is misinformation and what isn’t? They aren’t doctors. And from what I can gather even doctors don’t agree on everything. Right now in the UK some bodies say children should have the vaccine and others say it does more harm than good. Also we have a death toll from the vaccine but we have no idea what it is, can we have this? Or would this be banned under “misinformation” as well as it is on other platforms.

I say let people hang their dirty opinions out to dry. Besides, action taken to silence others is more significant than what those others are generally saying. People talk rubbish about everything all the time. But efforts from major tech corporations to censor individuals certain pricks my ears up.
Maybe try doing some research as to why rather than going in blind with that novel.

This whole US versus THEM song and dance is officially wack af.

I have always preferred

Well, the USA is much further to the right than the rest of NATO (except maybe Turkey). Americans tend to have a different mindset than Canadians and Europeans. The real shame is that a lot of Americans do know better and are progressive thinkers but kinda get buried in the useless background noise from their exclusively corporate media outlets.

What can ya do? Immature children tend to shout more often!

IMHO, progressivism is very much like a religious cult.

In contrast, classical liberals are open minded and willing to listen to all points of view. They defend freedom of speech. They believe in Live and Let Live.

Funny thing is.. Who determines if it's misinformation. All this is new and studies are being done daily. How do you know someone who is saying "misinformation" is actually stating a fact. How many times this clown Fauci first said no need to mask, no need to this. But with studies supposedly the mask is now needed... But real studies show that it really doesn't slow the spread.

This isn't about right wing or left wing. It just sucks big companies like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter etc. are starting to block peoples "freedom of speech" and what they want to believe in.

I mean is Youtube blocking misinformation about Aliens or 9/11 or anything else that someone might voice differently???

Except the classic liberal doesn't exist anymore. Now if you disagree with them you are labeled a racist, an *****, a trumper. They it has become a joke of a Party.... Not that republicans are any better either.

Free speech doesn't exist on private platforms. Techspot could ban me at any time, for any reason, and I have no recourse. YouTube is the exact same situation. It isn't owned by government - it is not subject to the first amendment.

Any arguments past acknowledging this are in bad faith or are massively underinformed on how speech in the US actually works.

Lemme know when it's youtube.gov, and I'll change my stance to fit that.

"Ryan Cole has referred to Covid-19 vaccines as “needle rape” and the “clot shot”"

Of course he does.

Research is starting to lean towards the fact that the vaccines are a "leaky vaccines" and might cause the population to be come vaccine dependent.

Pure balderdash!

"Malone says he deserves credit for more than just sparking hope. He dropped out of graduate school in 1988, just short of his Ph.D., and went to work at a pharmaceutical company called Vical. Now he claims that both the Salk Institute and Vical profited from his work and essentially prevented him from further pursuing his research. (A Salk Institute spokesperson said that nothing in the institute’s records substantiates Malone’s allegations. The biotech company into which Vical was merged, Brickell, did not respond to requests for comment.)

"To say that Malone remains bitter over this perceived mistreatment doesn’t do justice to his sense of aggrievement. He calls what happened to him “intellectual rape.”"

"A target of Malone’s ire, biochemist Katalin Karikó, has been featured in multiple news stories as an mRNA-vaccine pioneer. CNN called her work “the basis of the Covid-19 vaccine” while a New York Times headline said she had “helped shield the world from the coronavirus.” None of those stories mentioned Malone. “I’ve been written out of the history,” he has said. “It’s all about Kati.” Karikó shared with me an email that Malone sent her in June, accusing her of feeding reporters bogus information and inflating her own accomplishments. “This is not going to end well,” Malone’s message says."

Make of it as you will.

Putrid, fetid, disgusting right wing disinformation.

And? A government outlet is using a private corporation to put out messages. YouTube could still ban them if they start posting messages YouTube decides it doesn't like.

Reference: Twitter, Facebook, etc regarding Donald Trump.

You haven't made a point.
They're a private platform - they don't have to let them on, because they're a private platform, just like you said.

When you invite public offices onto your private platform you're inviting all the baggage, responsibilities and negative rights they carry with them. I'll start taking your argument seriously when these so-called private platforms start acting like it.

And you've just done more to broadcast his opinion than YouTube has. Real galaxy-brain strats you lot have.

The most hilarious part is that they won't do jack unless it affects share prices, and both of us know it.

Until then, go ahead and cry out in anguish as private companies decide what they want and don't want on their platform. They'll especially love it if you include it in YouTube comments, as it drives up ad revenue!

Aka "nyah nyah, my team is running the show, ha ha!"

When the pendulum swings back I hope it gores you all to death - or I would if Techspot fairly adjudicated what constitutes a death threat. ~Just kidding!~

Ah you are right... So then it's called censorship. Maybe I should pull the left card and say I feel discriminated based on my believes or where I grab my information from.

This isn't about right wing or left wing.

Yes it is along with rwnj's trying to rewrite history right in front of our eyes.

Repubs have always been A joke.

Don't question the Ministry of Truth!

Congratulations, you've gone from simply engaging a fellow user to hoping violence comes upon them because you decide not to accept how speech actually works in the US, compared to whatever ideas you might have.

I didn't write the laws. I don't enforce them either. I can, however, understand that cries of censorship against an organization that only has interest in ad revenues is silly in nature -- no one can post on YouTube without agreeing to a document that defines what can and can't happen, and if they break it for whatever reason, or YouTube changes their rules and standards, that's simply reality. Comply or lose access to the platform: uploaders' purpose, for YouTube, is for creating space for advertisements.

Instead, you can acknowledge that the Internet, like brick and mortar stores, can decide what they hold within their walls. You can't force them to do anything if they don't like the idea in the first place, or they change their minds at a whim. Content creators are subject to the whims of wherever they upload (or post on a community board), and that hasn't changed.

To force them to do otherwise is against constitutional protections of YouTube (and Alphabet's) own rights to free speech and association. It's a frustrating concept at times, but it is reality.

In a way, you put it perfectly yourself - hoping I am injured/killed because you're not happy with the actions of others that aren't me is a rather unfriendly statement that would get you justifiably kicked out of both Internet forums and/or if you started spouting off in the middle of a grocery.

Both have the right to remove you from their premises.

Say 'misinformation' to yourself a few times, and suddenly realize that it cannot exist as a fact, only an opinion.
The earth was flat, the sun revolved around the earth, and Three's Company was the number one show on television.

lol.

I don't use FB - but it's the rabbit - hole algorithms also - I click on an alt-right video out of curiosity on YT - then see that crap in my feed - so have to mark do not recommend/block .
Many people aren't anti-vax but are vax hesitant - being inundated with all those who took the vax will be dead in 3 years - does not really help.
Even on sites on FB/ reddit that mods censor contrarian points - - a valid - hey this does add up - will soon get lost . Youtube is probably quite democratic - as all comments show .
In NZ anti-vax is not really political based - I know a couple - one said she was so scared about the Vax . Countries can get to 60 to 70% vax - another easy 10-15% can be got by saying , no work, no music gigs etc .
Hopefully after another year - people can see Vax was ok . But the disconnect - Fox staff need to be vaxed or tested repeatedly , I think all Republican Senators are Vaxed - but there is easy money to be made and support by yelling a freedom message - even though they know lots will die or suffer lung, heart, brain, smell damage for a long time.
In any tragedy there is money to be made , power to be gained . maybe the black market guys , entertainment guys in the Vietnam war were the smartest - dumb war - let's make some money , lets run rackets in Saigon , or better yet get the Japan/Philippine deal organising poontang for the top Brass

A COVID vaccine takes twenty minutes, times two for a two-dose series.

If you can get equal results from exercise in the same period of time (ie 20-40 minutes total) without massive amounts of uppers and likely bodily harm, I'd love to know the technique.

Until then, vaccination is the primary and best option for protecting oneself and others from COVID. Weight loss can come after a vaccine.

Don't demonize the overweight when it's vaccinating first that matters most. It's effectively moving the goalposts yet again for those who prefer to attack others than to do the right thing and simply get the damned shots.

Dumb reply. I never said it was the shot vs. looking after oneself. There are no goalposts being changed, it is about communication and the fact that the main stream media and technology companies are not talking about the main cause of C-19 deaths. Society has to start somewhere and now is a great example of a time in which the learning experience is ripe.

Don't be an apologist and wipe your hands clean of taking responsibility for your actions. This is exactly the problem with so many things now-a-days.

On no, where will the readers of techspot go for information now?

Weird how this site has such a right wing base

YouTube should have done this sooner. Don't need to allow the dumbest people to have the loudest voices.

Yep. The dumbest ones always hide in plain sight.

What actions have I taken, exactly? And what am I being an apologist over?

The main cause of COVID deaths is... wait for it... COVID. There are factors that can contribute to a negative outcome during infection, but it's still the instigator.

Treat the virus first.

The more poignant question is this and should come from BOTH sides of the arguments: Who decides what is and isn't correct/incorrect information? Deciding what you want to be presented to your viewers by cherry-picking information and claiming it as true/false to sway the beliefs of people is the bigger issue.

Just a question but, Who exactly is fact checking them before video takedowns and such.
Science is not supposed to play politics, politics deals with the perceptions of reality, Science explains reality from actual information gathered from experimentation and non-bias observation, those who don't follow proper methodology and scientific method basically have their research papers nullified.
Science loses its validity when it talks out it's ***, as no one will ever trust information that is especially important when concerning medicine where people need to trust information for the betterment of their health.
