YouTube on Wednesday unveiled a monthly paid subscription option it’s calling YouTube Red. With it, members will be able to watch their favorite videos uninterrupted – that’s right, no ads – in addition to several other perks. Read on for a full rundown of all the important details.

YouTube Red members will also be able to save videos for offline viewing on a phone or tablet and even play videos in the background while doing other things or with the screen off.

The Google-owned company said the Red membership extends across its recently launched Gaming app as well as the brand new YouTube Music app that’ll be released soon. YouTube Music will be free with ads or available advertising-free with a Red subscription.

Furthermore, YouTube Red works with Google Play Music meaning subscribers to one of these services will automatically get access to the other.

As rumored, YouTube is funding the creation of new series and movies from some of its biggest stars including PewDiePie and Lilly Singh. That content, scheduled to debut sometime next year, will be available exclusively to Red subscribers.

It’s worth clarifying that the ad-supported version of YouTube isn’t going anywhere. In fact, YouTube expects most people will continue to use the site free of charge.

YouTube Red goes live October 28 with the company offering a free one month trial subscription. Pricing is set at $9.99 per month.

Great. This is something that holds no interest for me but at least now I know I can carry on watching some of my YouTube channels without Google shoving their hands under my chin.

Is it bad that the first thing that I thought was that the new service's name was rather... unfortunate? XD

Also, I figured it would just a matter of time until Google offered a "premium Youtube experience", and here it is.

There are ways of having all those "features" for free, except maybe the background play.. Just trying to make more money.

Yea I already pay for netflix and spotify, I cant afford nor will I add any other services without canceling one of those first.

Already have all those features on youtube. Google music doesn't interest me. Rather send donations to youtubers than pay youtube and they get nothing.
Also when do they realize that if commercial just doesn't last 10 sec and say product name and what it does it tells me it's bad and that it needs desperate marketing to sell and that means I need to buy it even less.

Hang on, this holds no interest to you, however you then state that you'll "carry on watching... without Google shoving their hands under my chin" so does this mean you have an alternate solution already on hand or your going to be paying this ridiculous fee to watch free content.

And seriously, YouTube Red... They should have, definitely could have, come up with something better. YouTube Air? YouTube Now?

Seriously YouTube marketing guys?!?! YouTube Red? I see we are phoning it in lately. Couldn't you at least TRY to earn that salary?
