Something to look forward to: AMD seems finally ready to increase the core count in its next-gen HEDT processors, with a new leak suggesting that the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX could have as many as 96 cores and 192 threads. The chip also leaked out last week, when an HS Code listing revealed the existence of three Threadripper 7000-series 'Storm Peak' HEDT CPUs. Alongside the 7995WX, the two other CPUs would include the 7985WX and the 7945WX.

The latest leak comes courtesy of Geekbench (via @BenchLeaks), which listed an HP Z6 G5 A workstation featuring the next-gen Threadripper Pro chip alongside 512GB of DDR4 RAM. As can be seen from the listing, the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX CPU sports 96 cores, 192 threads, 384 MB of L3 cache and 96 MB of L2 cache.

The Geekbench listing also suggests that the chip could have a base frequency of around 7.97 GHz, although that is likely to be a mistake, with some online reports suggesting that its boost clock could be around 5.14 GHz instead. The earlier leak also claimed that the chip could have a 350W TDP and be based on the 4844 SP6 socket platform.

Meanwhile, getting back to the Geekbench 5 results, the 7995WX notched up 2,095 points in the single-core tests, but what's really impressive is its multi-core score of 81,408 points, which is way more than the 48,000-odd points racked up by the Threadripper Pro 5995WX.

From what we already know about the Threadripper 7000 chips, they are expected to have Zen 4 cores and support 4-channel DDR5 memory and 64 PCIe Gen 5 lanes. Alongside the HEDT lineup, Threadripper 7000 is also expected to include a series of Workstation chips, which are said to be compatible with the 6096 SP5 socket platform and could support 8-channel DDR5 memory alongside 128 PCIe Gen 5 lanes.

It is worth noting that this is not the first leak that suggested the Threadripper 'Storm Peak' CPUs could feature up to 96 cores and 192 threads. Late last year, two Threadripper 7000 chips showed up in the Einstein@Home database, including one with 96 cores and 192 threads. The other chip, which popped up on the same database a few weeks earlier, reportedly had 64 cores and 128 threads. If the leaks are accurate, the Storm Peak CPUs could be a major hit for AMD when they arrive on the market later this year.
