3d games crashing after level load...

Hello all,

My name is Logan and I'm new to the forum here.

Roughly 3 months ago I began having issues with games crashing after loading a level up. I first noticed the problem in Half Life 2: Episode 2. The game would launch from the Steam client just fine but would freeze up either right as it finished loading the initial scene or shortly thereafter. At the time I wrote it off as a video card issue and told myself that I'd pick a new one up in the near future. I should also mention that I experience *no* other computer stability issues. Normal day-to-day stuff like web-browsing, movie playback, and listening to music all are perfectly fine and I never crash otherwise.

Fast forward to yesterday, and I just received a shiny, new Asus Radeon 4850 in the mail and I had it firmly planted in mind that my 3d troubles would be behind me. This unfortunately is not the case as I'm having similar issues now. Now, when trying to load HL2:Ep2 it hangs up on the main title loading screen and I'm forced to reboot. I downloaded the Crysis demo to give that a try and my computer reboots after loading the initial scene in the game.

Thinking that my directx install or something else in WinXP might be corrupt, I did a clean install this morning and oddly enough Crysis loaded up. I played for 10 minutes or so and then exited the game, at which point my system froze. Ever since, I'm experiencing the same issues that I had prior to the HDD wipe and clean install of the OS. Some of the errors have manifested as system errors but I also get the occasional application error. I'll post an example of each below. I also took the advice that I had read elsewhere on this forum to disable the automatic restart and my most recent attempt at running Crysis crashed back to the desktop rather than rebooting my system.

My specs are as follows:
ASUS P5B-E LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10000 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda SATA 320GB Perp. Write.
Asus EAH4850 Radeon 4850 Graphics (latest drivers released last month)
ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Here are the application error logs from my most recent attempt:

Thanks in advance for any help, and let me know what other types of information will assist in the potential resolution of this issue. Also, I wasn't exactly sure where to place this thread, so please do move it if it has a more suitable home.

Thanks,

Logan
