Arizona lawmaker wants to help fund the border wall through a $20 online porn fee

WTF?! Would you be prepared to pay $20 to view online porn? And how would you feel about that money funding, among other things, a border wall? This unusual scenario has been proposed by an Arizona state lawmaker, who wants makers and distributors of internet-connected devices to ensure they come with pornography-blocking software.

Rep. Gail Griffin, R-Hereford, introduced House Bill 2444 this week. It would require devices such as computers and phones to come with software "that renders a website that displays obscene material inaccessible by default."

Fans of xHamster and PornHub who want their fix would not only need to hand over $20 to the Arizona Commerce Authority, but also submit a request to the device distributor and provide proof that they are aged 18 or over. Additionally, retailers could ask for an additional fee on top of the twenty bucks.

That $20 would establish the “John McCain Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Prevention Fund," which will fund several programs through grants. The first of the ten initiatives is the building of the border wall. Here’s the full list (via Gizmodo):

1. Build a border wall between Mexico and this state or fund border security.

2. Provide physical and mental health services.

3. Provide temporary and permanent housing placements.

4. Assist victims in employment placement, education and employment training.

5. Prevent and protect victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, prostitution, divorce, child abuse and sexual assault.

6. Assist school districts.

7. Compensate crime victims.

8. Fund shelters and dream centers.

9. Pay for family counseling and rehabilitation.

10. Assist law enforcement.

Websites that allow access to prostitution and revenge porn will also be blocked and retailers must create a way for people to report any obscene material that the filter misses. Failure to block these reported cases within a reasonable time will result in a fine of $500 per site for the distributor.

The bill requires at least a two-thirds majority of the State House and State Senate to pass. Phoenix’s Fox 10 reports that Griffin is its only sponsor.

Lol... I love when crackpot politicians post bills like these... there's no chance of it being passed, it's just for his constituents at home to see he's "doing something".

I think the wall should simply have advertisements on it - I want to see beer ads when I try to cross the border dammit!

Being capable as an option is perfectly legal but making it a default could be considered a violation of 1st amendment rights of the individual. Remember, it doesn't matter if it is offensive as much as it matters that you can choose for yourself.

If the wall is ever built, it will have political propaganda on the US side, and pornography on the Mexican side, featuring hot Latinas.

I don't give a d*mn WHO comes to this nation as long as you go by a couple guidelines...
1. Come here LEGALLY
2. SPEAK ENGLISH
3. Provide or have your health checked.
4. Abide by the laws of THIS nation.
5. Get a JOB.

Other than that, I don't give a hoot what you do.

So, basically the guy wants Americans to pay for The Wall? What does His President got to say about this?

My apologies for putting it this way, but - Like it or not ENGLISH is not a cut and dry requirement for US citizenship. http://pjclaw.net/uscitizenship/english-language-requirements-for-naturalization/ That's the law.

It is also only necessary to read and write simple words and phrases, and that's the law.

Now if you are P&Ming about people out in public speaking their native language between themselves, tough. Plug your ears if you don't like it. Doing so is easily argued as a 1st amendment right.

Agree with all but #2 - I would encourage English speaking. I would hope for it to be a happy accomplishment for every new naturalized citizen. I think I have relatives who speak their native language ... and they have been here in Americas for thousands of years.

You have relatives who are thousands of years old? Wow, you really are from the Stone Age. I'm impressed.

It sounds like they don't like porn. But look at all the good it could do? 10 amazing things. Even the current government can't do all (or any of) that. Pornhub for President!
Why not add $20 to the cost of every phone/tablet/computer device purchased in the US and accomplish all those wonderful things, if it's that easy. You'd get even more money that way and it's not a lot compared to the cost of the device.

We should build a less obtrusive wall, (10' cyclone tops maybe), and put nude pictures of 'ole Gail, on the side facing Mexico. Trust me, no one will either want to have sex, or came here, after they're exposed to her steely, haggard gaze. It would have the same effect, (I'm guessing), as mandatory Willie Nelson posters outside of every strip club. Did anyone catch that pun? Let me see a show of hands. (Aaand there's another one. I just can't help myself).

For those who dare camp near our mighty chain link "wall", that ferocious countenance will knock down any hot blooded Latino male's tent poles within 50 yards, so to speak.

If there's anyone out there who can do a deep fake, her head on the GOP's symbol, would make a great rallying poster for the 2020 elections.

Yeah, yeah, I know, she might be someone;s grandmother. So what?

I wonder if you would be an American today if this list was a real requirement. You do realize, a good chunk of immigrants spoke little english before the moved to the US. Unless you are lucky enough to come from an english speaking country, requiring people to speak english before they immigrate is a limiter without a purpose.

She's likely keeping a campaign promise by introducing a bill which is co-sponsored by nobody and which will go nowhere, as she expects.

Forget it, Jake. It's Politics.

That IS correct, but, if you read THE HISTORY of immigration, from the side of the immigrants themselves, they EMBRACED the culture of being an American. They LEARNED English, many changed their names to "American sounding" names, wanted to integrate into American society, while bringing some of their culture with them. Many stories of people who WANTED to come here for the freedoms this country offered. Now, we have people coming here that want ME to speak the language of THEIR country, embrace THEIR culture/customs, and want ME to "pick up the tab" so they can be freeloading moochers here.

Multiple studies show that's simply not true

The only real difference between then and now is you have mislead Americans pillorying immigrants because Fox news decided to make a stereotype out of a single example. And clearly they still have to learn English. The government has some systems in Spanish but you have to learn English. Just like the Japanese also offer some services in english as well.
