I have a 4 yr. old Dell notebook which I am about to upgrade from 128 MB to 512MB. Actually, someone is going to do it for me because I'm clueless. I amm told that I had better back up everything and that I should get something called a flash card??? I have a Dell Inspiron 2650. Call anyone help me? Thanks.

You should get a USB flash drive to easily back up your data files, assuming you have less than 1GB of data. This is probably the easiest way to go. Check out this link: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/flash2005.ars

If you have USB on the laptop, you can get a hard drive from a computing store, and use it with a USB caddy. Then you can plug the USB caddy with the HDD in it into the laptop and just copy stuff off. Or, as was said above, for data below 4 GB you can use a USB pen drive.
