Bill and Melinda Gates to seek a divorce after 27 years of marriage

This comment section went off in a way I would not have expected. My only thoughts on this are how is this Tech news?

It's weird what I hear in this section about goods and marriages.

Here I had 3 options when marrying:
- share everything even the things we had before marriage;
- share everything we buy after marrying - everything else is still personal property including inheritances after marrying;
- don't share anything even after marriage, everyone owns what they buy - in case of divorce if one is doing substantially better (like if the husband has 100,000 euros and the wife has 10,000), you will help each other. But this goes both ways, if the wife's doing way better then the husband gets compensated.

27 is enough for everybody. :wink:wink:

While I consider marriage as one of worst discoveries in history of mankind. I see plenty of machos and alpha males in here. Gross. It's their life, no need to get nasty over the issue.

The Most powerful doctor in the world leaves his wife after 27yrs, this is not what you think, something is going on, getting rid of 80% of the world population is the problem and that is Doctor Gates main focus right now

Bill Gates has been fighting viruses his entire career... Just the OS kind. Of course he's qualified to be a virologist for human viruses, the architecture is not that different... right?

Marriage is nothing more than an insurance policy on a woman's rapidly depreciating market value.

Originally designed, by men, to protect their daughters and to ensure the passing down of property to legitimate children...it has been turned into a weapon, against men, by America's brand of liberal feminism which has done nothing but expand the welfare state and put us on track to being an impoverished matriarchy.

Women are treating men like they are a retirement plan.

Like they are walking lottery tickets.

As much as I hate all the feminist nonsense and I agree that a lot of women might be like this I think its very unfair to put them all in this basket, I have a wife who has a job, retirement plan and could easily live without me, there is a lot of women like this in this world.....

If we men have taken steps back in this regard over the last few decades it is only because of the way men treated the women in their lives for centuries. It has come back around.

Great, so Techspot now does marital gossip.

So Bill Gates is getting a divorce. This is about as interesting to me as a tabloid article about what the Royal Family's marital statuses are.

Does anyone else actually care?

I was hoping it'd be filled with more quasi-tech relate jokes about it (not to make light of it, but it's a 'fluff' article for sure), I am disappoint.

How the men treated them?

They stayed married. The men protected them from other men and from poverty.

Women have always benefitted from marriage.

It was only when jobloss, drugs and alcoholism led to increases in domestic violence that you have an argument.

How the men treated them?
In respect for Techspot I'm going to just pretend you didn't ask that.

It was only when jobloss, drugs and alcoholism led to increases in domestic violence that you have an argument.
And yet easily 90% of crimes from those factors are of us men hurting the women. Quit pretending all those things are only problems for men. It's ridiculous.

What does this have to do with Tech News? I feel like this is becoming E! News lately.
I've been spending less time on PoliticsSpot and more on TechPowerUp for that reason. That the guy used to work in tech 20 years ago has to be the most tenuous excuse I've seen for Kardshian style gossip. Since it's a "slow news day", if someone wants some idea for new articles, how about...

1. An updated IPS vs AMVA in 2021 panel comparison (eg, testing for inverse ghosting / and or what black crush is like on the newest monitors that I've seen hardly any tech site comment on).

2. A new updated SSD endurance test for TLC vs QLC plus long-term unpowered data retention test of the latter and its potential unsuitability as an offline backup drive.

3. A 2021 printer / MFD roundup article, testing actual cost of ownership (eg, how forced printer cleaning cycles can quadruple the total cost of ownership of printing 1x page per day over 20 days vs 20x pages in one go). This past year people have been buying them more than ever for home-working to the extent of some HP toners / inks being in short supply in some countries, yet most of the bigger "tech" sites seem to have slept through demands for updated reviews.

...So that we've got something to read that isn't celebrity gossip designed to press the emotional buttons of certain overly political regulars here still pushing for their "utopia" where techspot becomes an extension of the Fox vs MSNBC shriek-fest the comments section regularly resembles...

That is not a fix all !
Life is not fair - you need to check your white privilege.

Joking aside - be yourself
You can put family legacies into trusts for the family .
If a guy wears flashy Armani or Pierre Cardin suits , $600 hand stitched soft leather Italian shoes to attract the women - You want me to feel sorry if he attracts gold diggers .
If I was rich - looking for a wife - I would not flaunt it - I want someone who shares my values and likes me for me - Your girlfriend is in massive credit card debt to make herself look good - warning warning - They want gifts all the time of monetary value !!! - It may be you are 45 and out of shape and she is in great shape and 23 - Oh she wanted half my money for 6 years of hot sex (for you )- suck it up

The real issue is custody of the children etc - again communication is everything .
Marry someone who is kind -Never marry someone who shows unkindness to the innocent and less fortunate . If someone abuses their power , their good looks-know that they still need work - and YOU will not change them- only loss/rejection or an epiphany can do that.

That's my life advice - marry someone KIND and respectful to those worse off - They will normally always want the best for their children .
It's like if you buy a house from a OCD builder /owner - if all the finishing details are OTT perfect - you know it's impossible for them to skimp under the surface

The article was generously posted under the category of "Tech Culture" so you really didn't have to read it.
Bill Gates is known ubiquitously for his contributions to PCs, mainly software, for decades. So, posting a news article like this is okay by me.
Why is it so hard to simply ignore the minority of non-tech based articles that TechSpot posts that you have no (supposed) interest in reading and read the majority of articles you truly want to that are tech based?
Here's a newsflash for anybody who might have a heart attack when they see the next Bill Gates article posted on TechSpot. It will happen. Guaranteed when he's proclaimed dead. So, swallow the pill now so you can be prepared for the future. 🙂

The problem is that marriage is mutual agreement which can be broken by a single part. It would be much more just if the part asking for divorce would be penalized unless serious concerns would be raised. But the whole concept cant work anymore so changing one paragraph would not change anything.

I agree with that but only to a point because I have never even raised a hand to a woman I love in anger (or any other woman if you'll exclude childhood fights with my sister...LOL). I refuse to be responsible for actions that I have never taken and actively oppose. I have enough "fun" being responsible for the crap that I'm actually guilty of, I don't need more of it thrown on me. I have no problem with a woman being cautious, in fact, I would be taken aback if a woman wasn't cautious.

Make no mistake, I understand women's trepidation and I applaud it. It shows intelligence because they know what we're theoretically capable of. Even if most of us are more likely to die while protecting a woman than harming one through violence, it's impossible for them to know which is which and the risk is very real.

It's like walking up to a dog that you don't know. Sure, 90% of dogs will wag their tails, let you pet them and lick your hand but that 10% that will try to maul you to death are why caution must be exercised.

You're absolutely right and, as always, mister "I have an RTX 3090 computer!" is absolutely wrong. Does he ever tire of being wrong?

I'm not sure why someone would want to hang on to someone who doesn't want to be married to you anymore. Of course, there can be negative economic consequences which can be a penalty in and of itself but still, why make it extra difficult?
