Can't connect to wifi

I bought a pc from my cousin (he made it himself, I don't know if that helps) and I cant connect to my WiFi. When I check my WiFi drivers it just shows the name of an Ethernet cord. Is there anyway I can connect to the WiFi without an Ethernet cord because it will not look good running down the hall. I don't know what WiFi driver it had or even if it had one.

Do you have a WiFi card installed? Check Device Manager for errors...does it show WiFi....is is 'functioning properly'?
Ask your cousin about the WiFi.
