Important: Please read this thread HERE before you decide whether to clean or reformat your system.
Should you decide to clean your computer, please go ahead to Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions and follow the steps given. These are a comprehensive mix of steps to remove common malware, as well as provide us logs of your system to look at so we can further remove any tricky nasties.
Do follow all the instructions exactly.
Thereafter, please post fresh HijackThis, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread. Do not copy and paste if not it will be ignored and/or removed.
Also, please let me know the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan

I am trying to follow the instructions. In step 1, all the adware/spy sweepers need to be disabled. I have a registered version of spy sweeper 5.3 adn adaware SE Personal. In spy sweeper, When I followed the instructions I could not uncheck the items as all of them are disabled. Pls guide me what to do..

If all the items in Spysweeper are already unchecked/disabled, then continue with the rest of the instructions.

Yes, use the shutdown option is the system tray. If it restarts when you restart your system, just shut it down again.

Ok..I can shut down the spy sweeper.
Step 2 , we have etrust antivirus in our system I launch it eveytime and check for viruses. Do I have to install the software specified in Step 2...
Also If I shut down the spy sweeper I am not able to continue the other steps..because gettting some junk IEs...Do you have a yahoo id so that I can chat now and fix it?

No, you only install the software in step2 if you don`t already have antivirus and firewall software installed. It does say this quite clearly.
What are junk IE`s?

Delete all files in AVG Antispyware quarantine.
1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 from HERE. Save it to your Desktop and extract it.
2. Download the attached avengerscript.txt and save it to your desktop. The Avenger script is attached to the bottom of this post.
Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.
3. Now, start The Avenger program by double clicking on its icon on your desktop.
Under "Script file to execute" choose "Load script from file".
Now click on the folder icon which will open a new window titled "open Script File"
navigate to the file you have just downloaded, click on it and press open
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please attach the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply, as well as fresh HJT, Combofix and AVG Antispyware logs.

Download the Pocket Killbox programme from HERE. Extract it but don`t run it yet.
Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how HERE.
In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE.
Open your task manager, by holding down the ctrl and alt keys and pressing the delete key.
Click on the processes tab and end process for(if there).

Close task manager.
Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O20 - Winlogon Notify: gdirov - gdirov.dll (file missing)
Click on the fix checked button.
Close HJT.
Locate and delete the following bold files and/or directories(if there).
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\tmp79.tmp.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\tmp7A.tmp.exe
Run the killbox.exe file. When it loads type the full path to the file you would like to delete in the field and check the delete file on reboot button. press the Delete File button (looks like a red circle with a white X). It will prompt you to reboot, select no until you have finished inputting the files you want to delete, only then allow it to reboot and hopefully your files will now be deleted. If your computer doesn`t automatically restart, restart it manually.
These are the filepaths you need to enter into killbox.

C:\WINDOWS\fcyvuv.dll
Reboot into normal mode and rehide your protected OS files.
Post fresh HJT and Combofix logs.

Hi...Finished the next set of instructions...The files which needs to be given in Killer.exe
c:\windows\system32\ssttqpm.dll
C:\WINDOWS\fcyvuv.dll
are not found in the system..So did not run that....
Find attached the Hijackthis and combofix files. Pls let me know the further steps....

Very well done, your logfiles are now clean.
Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE.
Now, turn system restore back on. This will have deleted all your old restore points and any nasties that are in them. It will also have created a new, clean restore point.
Run the Ccleaner programme as per step9 of the instructions HERE.
If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.

As far as I`m concerned the Darksma Downloader is no longer on your system. However, if you want to check with the Yahoo antispyware programme that first alerted you to it, then that`s fine.

Yes, you can get rid of all the tools we used.
I recommend you keep the following.
Spybot Search & Destroy.
Ad-Aware se personal.
Spyware Blaster.
AVG Antispyware.
Ccleaner.
