"oldmaster" d620 is 595b based service tag ,and don't have classic eeprom ATMEL 24cxxxx,......shorting method not work and may destroy ur motherboard!!!.

me too i can give free solutions in other laptop probs.and i did it all the time.
I have the algorithm to generate master password for power on password based on service tag and for hdd based on serial number as well. Dell bios writers make a some mistakes, which weaken algorithm and its inherited on all modern models. I have already unlocked many dell's locked hdd.

i don't think the Master password erases the hdd password. hdd pass coded by the ATA standarts and protocols and this action aren't connected with certain types of notebooks. the only thing that's changed - is the HDD Master pass, so you can't erase it with the standart ATA command erase on. but also there's another method to unlock the HDD and this methode connected with HDD service area modules editing
hello everyone im going to tell you something about razik chou... well i paid him $50.00 using paypal and he assure me that he had the password for my dell D620 ... he told me that im going to have the password in two days that was about one months ago... and still got nothing...not even a email ... guess what today i check my email and it was a e-mail from razik... saying you password is PPR5FSmi hahahahaha i laugh because he probably didnt know that password was send to me by rustam to help a friend.... i belive he went looking in the forum for a password to send it to me... very funy...

I have Dell D420, which I mess with Hirens Boot disk, wonted to repartition HDD, frend gave me CD with software which I never used before, so, I was curious, played with meny programs, among all of them and BIOS & CMOS Tools, after reboot, bios asked me for password, I did not enter any password in any of those programs, what went wrong, I don't know, but I have locked laptop, problem is that I have tons of documents that I need for work. I live in Serbia, here Dell sels through distributors, and they don't have assets to unlock, they must send laptop to Austria. Service Tag is #5HH9N2J-595B. In this forum I read that Rustam helps in this kind of case, Rustam I will be grateful for help.

for he password i given you ,i thouth you have made mistake about service tag given to rustam before and i noticed that tag the two tags number are a bit the same!! so i thought that you have made mistake!! that's all, otherwile

I am in doubt about possibility to cause the bios password playing with Hiren.
No need to send the laptop to unlock, they may give you the master password by phone or email. Also this password locked only laptop, not the HDD with the tons of documents, which you wanted to repartition. Just copy your HDD via another D420 or via adapter for 1.8" HDD.

Ok guys enough this thread is for those with problems with Dell Laptop passwords, not a place where you can start flaming each other, if this carries on I will get a MOD to delete all the posts that arent of any intrinsic value to the thread and those responsible will get a warning...

Hi rustam, I did not believe myself that such thing as locking bios with Hirens is possible, but I did it, I vanted to change size of partition C, for instaling Vista, not to delete data vhich is on D partition, I caled Dell authorized dealer, they told me that there is not such software as bios password generator from aset tag in their possesion, they must send it to Austria, there is service that they work with. In my country, which count 6-7 milion people, only 2 procent of population uses computers, usualy they are desktop, so, I can not find adapter for 1.8" HDD to anything here, and I dont know anybody who has Dell D420 or such type of notebook. I'am grateful for time that you spend for me.

For those of us in the UK who work with Dells regularly, there is a drive going on Ebay link removed, it contains all the BIOS updates for most of the dell models as well as the Service Tag program.

Here's my situation, I have a D520 with 1GB of RAM and wantesd to upgrade it, so i removed the "door" in the back and there was only 1 chip, with no indication on what size it was. So I removed it and tried to boot without it
So I got an error message saying that the hard had change and I needed to enter the setup.
But it never give the option to enter the setup, I get instead that gray screen of death asking for a password for the service tag.
Even If I put the ram back, I still get that same error and the gray screen!
here's my Service tag is: #6703PC1-595B
I tried alling Dell but they only give the run around, they say the service tag is not valid....
As for the HD, it looks from the other posts that everyone that has the Gray screen also turns out to have the HDD locked.
Would it be ok If I just reformat it? I have the original Image CD that came with the laptop. Or will I really need to ask Rustam again for the HD psw ?

Dell 600m Hdd Problem

Paragon and others have been most helpful, so a big thank you to them.
I have been working on this 600m and no matter which brand of NEW hdd I try to install, the system boots and prompts for the hdd password.
The request is for hdd #***********-595B, so this appears to be not a valid hdd serial number.
I am able to boot from the dvd/cd and have tried changing to Latitude Bios A17 and back to Inspiron 600M bios (A17). I have also tried A16 and have masterpw asset and svctag.

The system is working fine . I can work on it without any problem. Only the bios is passworded. I contacted the seller at last and he grabbed the Service tag and he told me he will try to get it ...in time... in fact he suggested I may be passworded the bios... I may be stupid but not so stupid... anyway stupid enough because I did not checked the bios...for the first.

I try to contact Dell and they send me to the partners... I am amazed. I sent few e-mails to DELL trying to transfer the laptop to me.
