Disable windows messenger

i have a quick question. i have done it before, and i dont want windows messenger on my computer. i believe i have disabled it from startup before by disabling msmsgs.exe from startup via msconfig. however, is there a way to completely remove it from windows? i dont use it, have never used it, and, in fact, dont believe i ever will use it. i dont want this program, because every now and then msmsgs.exe will re-enable itself in startup. so if possible i would like a way to completely remove it, or if thats not possible, then make sure it permanently stays disabled from startup.

install Spybot Search & Destroy

updated it

backup your registry

use the Mode->advance menu option

on the left will be a Tools link: click it

find System Startups; click

look for Messenger;

uncheck the box on the left to disable.

TO DELETE THE REGISTRY ENTRY: select the line and the click the red X at the top.
