DISABLING ACPI on Laptop

Hi everyone
I have searched quite a few of your threads on this but have not come up with quite the answer I required so hopefully someone can help- Basically my queston is what ill effects (if any) are there to disabling ACPI on my laptop?

The reason I ask this is that my newer laptop is suffering serious performance issues when running (mostly ASIO) audio apps such as Sonar and FL Studio. My older model performs considerably better with about half the spec which is very annoying!
I have tweaked the new one for audio so its def not that kind of issue therefore I strongly suspect ACPI as the culprit- I do not use any power saving features and am unlikely to in the forseeable therefore I do not care about this aspect of disabling it (ie battery life etc) however are there any other issues I need to know about (will it work??, will I need to manually reinstall device drivers etc?)

System:
Acer Travelmate 660lci
1.4 Ghz Centrino (Pentium M)
512
USB2
Firewire

Many thanks in advance
