domain not found message

Someone please help!

I volunteer at a local school and over this past summer we installed a new server changing from Novell to Windows. All seemed to go well for the first few months, but recently the systems have started to display the standard domain not found message. This is a random thing. You can log in 100 times and it might happen 20 or 25 times. Immediately after it happens you can try to log in again and chances are you will get in. But maybe not. It might take you 5 or 6 attempts.

This problem is not limited to any one system.

This problem never occurs for administrator, only student logins.

I can't give all students admin rights.

Did we miss a setting?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The domain or the connection is simply too busy, or too poorly designed. Can't you chose a couple of alternate sites?.

raybay, thanks for the reply. Never had this problem before. I almost can't believe the domain is too busy as there are instances, like last night, that only one or two people are in the school and I still got the message. I'm not sure what you mean by poorly designed or what you mean "alternate sites". Remember, all I am trying to do is log into my network.

sometimes systems get wired like
Code:
isp-->firewall-->server-->router-->clients
which causes all traffic to traverse the server. a better design would be
Code:
isp-->firewall-->router-->server
                    +
                    +-->clients
