I tried connecting a second monitor to my laptop for a dual-monitor setup and my laptop froze. I restarted it and it took around 20 minutes to start up Windows. I shutdown the computer which also took an extreme amount of time, and unplugged the second monitor then started my laptop up again and it still took 20 minutes.
I have tried 2 system restores from different points but both of them failed. I have also tried running a chkdsk from the command prompt but it did not solve the problem.
My laptop is a Gateway P-Series running Windows Vista Home Premium and the monitor is a Hewlett Packard HP L1710. The monitor is only a few days old and the laptop is less than a year old.
