DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error sending e-mail

I get that message pointing to 'ndis.sys' when I try to send a e-mail with SMTP authority using Opera V6.05 w/ SMTP Auth V0.9
This also happens with just Pegasus Mail running!

I thought it was a problem with SMTP Authority, but the same thing happens with Pegasus Mail! Here is the KB article from M$ on the error:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;293077

Here is the overview from M$ on ndis:

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/tech/network/ndis5.mspx

My network card is a Linksys LNETX100 through a Netgear router
I have DSL through Verizon if that matters.

I'm running 2k Pro w/SP3

I do see SP4 is out, with 2 issues on something simalar to this, but with the Server edition:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330716

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810823

I'm not ready to instal SP4 yet.........too early.

Any other ideas??

If you haven't alredy, try uninstalling/reinstalling or upgrading your Network card drivers.

Also, perhaps your NDIS.sys has become corrupted. Reinstalling your drivers may fix this, but you might want to run System File Checker from Start/Run/SFC.exe /scannow

This will let you know if there is something wrong with it and hopefully fix it for you.

If you are unable to find a fix, then I might suggest to "repair" Windows 2000 by booting from the CD and following the installation process. Don't reinstall 2000 though, try the repair (NOT recovery console) when the option is presented. You may have to reinstall SP3 afterward, depending on which type of repair you do.
