GTA superfans are driving non-stop in GTA V until sequel is announced

Recap: Rockstar in late 2013 launched what would become one of the most important games of the modern era. Rockstar followed its familiar open-world formula with Grand Theft Auto V but cranked it to 11. Gamers and critics alike ate it up.

We’re now more than six years in, however, and fans are getting a bit antsy for something new. Rumors of a sequel have persisted for years but Rockstar hasn’t had anything solid to say on the matter so a group of dedicated fans are doing the next logical thing – vowing to drive around in GTA V until the launch of GTA VI.

The stream, started on October 5, estimates that it’ll take at least 365 days – another year – for Rockstar to even announce the next game in the series. According to the YouTube channel bot, they’ve made 912 laps around the map thus far. That’s a lot of driving.

It’s unclear if actual humans are doing the driving or if this is all being run by bots. Either way, the team is accepting donations to help keep the stream going. Interested parties can follow the links in the YouTube description to support the crew.

The last we heard about GTA VI was that it’ll be for next-gen consoles only and may not launch until 2021 or sometime in 2022. Sources also add that it’ll be set in the 70s and 80s with a heavy influence from the Netflix series Narcos.

Found is a TechSpot feature where we share clever, funny or otherwise interesting stuff from around the web.

If they really wanted a sequel they would stop driving. Lack in activity would influence the next release. So actually they are only getting in the way of their own wishes.

Grand theft auto's time has passed.

rockstar makes gorgeous digital worlds but each new game is more boring than the last, it's almost like they dont want you to have fun, just stare in awe at what they can create. GTA6 will probably the benchmark for the ps5/nextbox yet it will be dull as a butterknife personality wise.

all gta5 had was graphics, unlike the previous games no one talks about its missions or characters cause they were rubbish, but it sure did look good.

if they are jut driving around in circles they can't buy shark cards so the profit margin for the month will drop and grab rockstar's attention.

GTA is just getting boring now ..... they really need to come out with more single player version stuff .....

I'm sure Rockstar is gonna spend millions making a GTA installment just for these people.

Still won't stop a GTA 6 game from coming out and breaking records like V did.

Would love to see the driving physics more like IV and less tooney like in V. Cops need major help as well. They added all that dlcs to spend money on but never updated the horrible police AI.

Not sure whats worse, the people stream this garbage, or the people watching and giving them money...

My money is on them timing the release so they can cash in on current and next gen consoles. Exactly what they did with GTA5. They released it for PS3/Xbox 360 first so everyone bought it. Then released it later for PS4/Xbox One, to which many rebought it. And of course they waited even longer for the PC release to get even more rebuys.

Maybe Rockstar will move to Bethesda's model where, after 5 years of TES V, they finally released ...... TES V Special Edition!

Correct.

It is a great game and I can easily keep playing it.

However, I have never understood streamers or people who watch it.

I understand maybe exclusive stuff like first gameplay and sh8t like how -to, but to watch someone play endless hours of what you could be doing yourself... Yeah, baffles the mind.
