How do i fix it???

ok i tried reformating my computer and once you get to the point where you reinstall window's xp, it says error cant boot from cd or cant read disk or something, so how do i fix the problem with my cd drive, do i put a new one in or what???

If it is the cd drive that`s bad, then yes replacing it should work.

Before doing that. You might want to run a cd lense cleaner through the drive.

However, is it possible that your Windows disk is dirty/scratched?

thank you and i will try later today and see if that works, could i take the cd drive out of my old computer and put it in the one that needs fixing? oh and it is not the windows cd because i tried my friends xp cd and it said the same thing.

Yes you can use the cd drive from your old computer, although depending on how old it is, it may be very slow.
