^ Newbie here too...as you can tell... perhaps I should add a comment to the quote above? would help...

Well the D630 is almost the same as my D530, seems the only exception being the screen size, so welcome to my nightmare!

Not much luck with it yet, seems not many people know about the D530 eeprom chip unlike the other models out there. I think I reached page 14 in one of my many gooogle searches.....

Dell D400 BIOS reset help?

Hello there all... i need some help reseting the bios/cmos on my dell d400
i have been searching all over on google, yahoo ect... but have not found any answers..

Tell us more. What is the problem? What do you consider a "reset"? What BIOS is installed?
Do you have a password or access problem?

well to put it plain....

i have been given a dell d400 that has a admin password on it... i have tryed contacting dell for the password but they wouldnt giv me it as i couldnt match up the details to the person who bought the laptop....

the computer its self will not boot up from any drive without the admin or primary password.

its a dell D400
BIOS Revision A01

thats pretty much all i know

Hi,

My sister purchased a DELL Cpi ds233st from a yard sale this past weekend. She got it to give to her grand daughter for Xmas. Of course she has not been able to get past the Bios Password. I tried the standards of Dell and various forms of admin and Administrator.

Next I am going to remove the battery for a few hours to see if that helps.\

Meanwhile, I am trying to find a password regenerator for this model. I have had no luck so far. Does anyone know of such a prorgram or a way to do it.

The tag # is Z31W9**-D35B

Thanks for your help.

There are perhaps 800 postings on TechSpot on this issue. Search our archives.

Dell's action protects all of us.

One thing you can do is go to the Dell website and register yourself as the new owner, then wait 60-70 days, then send it to Dell for a fix... for a price.

There are people on this forum who claim to be able to fix the issue... and we know a number of people who have tried to get a fix through them or using techniques they recommend. None of the people I know were successful. But some people on this forum claim to be satisfied.

As far as I know, there is only one Dell model that nobody can fix. The rest require work and research. But based on hourly rated, it isn't worth it. It is cheaper to buy a new motherboard for that model...

Search the archives and old postings... there is a great deal of data available on TechSpot.

Got no idea who your referring to or what laptop model you say nobody can fix...

anyway cant believe there is nobody out there with this little piece of information.

can someone please tell me the location of the EEPROM chip on a dell latitude D400 :)

i have found many sites with diagrams of the chip itself... but no explination of the chip where abouts on the notebooks motherboard.

Thankyou to obi for the link... was verry helpfull.

Dell Latitude D610

Hi, I am new here and not sure what I need to ask but my daughter received a computer a couple years ago after going to school and while trying to get it on the internet, I found out I would have to change the settings on the network card. Well, to make a long story short, I would have to get into the setup and couldn't. My son found out that the setup was locked and therefore I couldn't get in to change it. She hasn't "needed" the internet since and has been using it just for word processing and other documentation.

How would I go about getting this change? What information do I/you need?

Thank you.
