Method to follow if you have Internet Explorer 7
If you have Internet Explorer 7, you can repair damaged files or missing registration information in Internet Explorer 7. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Start Internet Explorer 7.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
4. In the Rest Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.
Oh, bad news.... even though I've followed your instruction above: click the Reset button to reset my IE, the message box still SHOW UP! I forgot to mention my OS is Vista Home Premium, not XP. I think the reason that the message box keep showing up could be the malwares still hiding in my registry entry, in other word, my computer is still infected. I'll un-install the IE7, and download another one to see what'll happen. Thanks to both of ya!

Oh. for some reason i thought you had XP. And even more odd, at least after a quick look, i didn't see a similar kb from Microsoft for Vista (tho gotta be one)

But, yea, try the reinstall at this point.. and let us know if it finally fixed that persistent bugger!

You can't reinstall IE7 manually on Vista as it's installed with Vista from the beginning same as WMP11 as well. (AFAIK). Unless that KB entry on the MS website is for Vista also...

You say the IE7 runs after you close the message box about the registry entry, why not try download something like Tuneup Utlities trial and do a registry scan to fix and clean up out-of-date entries etc?

Can you give the link to which I can download it from?

Has the problem been cleaned up yet? If no, please do the following

1. Download HijackFree
2. Run it. Click on Others you'lll see appear along the left margin of the Hijfree window.
3. Click the + sign to expand Explorer Addons
4. Click Shell extensions
5. Scroll to the entry where the name equal Internet
6. Verify the Location in the entry which should point you to the file and information you see in the HijackFree lower pane. This information should include:
File Name: shdocvw.dll
File Path: C:\Windows\System32\
File description: ShellDoc Object and Control Library
Version 6.0.6000.16386

7. Open a cmd window with Administrator rights and enter: SFC /VERIFYFILE=C:\Windows\System32\shdocvw.dll
8. Probabaly not a bad idea to scan all of your system files as well
To scan and verify only, not try to fix anything: sfc /verifyonly
To scan and fix corrupted files: sfc /scannow
Here's more info about sfc and how to find/read the important stuff!

HijackFree
Another excellent program link from LookinAround regarding Startups
(I removed 3 things that I didn't want, including 2 no file startups)
Also I found runscanner (whilst going through their forum) which can also scan for issues.

Glad you like HijackFree... I found it (and still learning to fully use it) awhile back while trying to make sense of (i.e. manage) IE Add-Ons/Active X. In fact, i think it's the only freeware tool found to help manage those to date.

You might also want to look at this thread about networking where you'll also find Look@LAN. Another tool out of the freeware toolbox that won't help adu123 with their problem but you might useful yourself sometime in other situations.

btw.. i should mention that to-date i'd never tried using it for Startups (vs. still trying out/using its other functions)

So i should thank you for pointing out runscanner. Have to add it to my still-to-do-and-checkout list.

Verify the Location in the entry which should point you to the file and information you see in the HijackFree lower pane. This information should include:
File Name: shdocvw.dll
File Path: C:\Windows\System32\
File description: ShellDoc Object and Control Library
Version 6.0.6000.16386
I've ran HijackFree and found the exact same info as above in my Internet entry.

After I entered: SFC /VERIFYFILE=C:\Windows\System32\shdocvw.dll in my cmd window and hit enter, it says: "Window Resource Protection did not found any integrity problem. Then, I enter: sfc /verifyonly and hit enter, this time it says: " Window Resource Protection found integrity violations. Details are include in C: \Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Finally, I entered: sfc /scannow and hit enter, it says: "Window Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are include in C: \Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" I've located the CBS.log, but for some reasons I was able to open it, it says:" access denied". Just a little update, please direct me what to do next, thanks

Some info HERE

Verify the Integrity of Windows Vista System Files

Run SFC /SCANNOW

image%7B0%7D.png

Have an administrator command prompt open (by right clicking on Command Prompt, and running as Administrator)

Type: sfc /ScanNow on the command line, then press ENTER

You may need your Vista Disc during the process
It is also stated to disconnect Internet, and temporarily turn off Antivirus and any 3rd party Firewalls, during the scan.

kimsland: wow, that was quick. you must have hot keys prepared for some of your replies! :grinthumb

adu123: The GUID that appears in the error in your message box corresponds to the Internet entry i asked you to look at. When i looked through the Vistra registry to find it and subkeys i saw it included a reference to shdocvw.dll in the indicated directory. So, wondered if this path and/or file got corrupted and that's the source of your problem.

HijackFree is easier to display the reference (and easier output) then asking you to dig through the registry and .dll yourself to find things.

Sorry, forget the previous respond, I forgot to run it as an administrator. I've a update in #35( edit from the previous respond).

Please try this:

Manual steps to run Chkdsk from My Computer or Windows Explorer
  • Open My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
  • Click Properties, and then click Tools.
  • Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed
Use one of the following procedures:
  • • To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, click Start.
  • • To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start. (tick)
  • • To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Wait until Chkdsk finishes Checking / Repairing any faults
Windows will then either restart your computer or continue loading Normally.

Is chkdsk needed yet? I dunno, asking. but adu132 i don't have a vista machine here to verify this fact (i remote log in to a friend's to verify things but can't just now) but not sure you need open CBS.log in the normal way (and if what you need to do makes a difference)

Did you see the link at the bottom of my post #31 telling how to find things in CBS.log? It uses a findstr command.. Try it. Don't know if you'll get same result./

Whenver I try to open the CBS.log file, it will say "Access denied" Can anyone tell me how to open the CBS.log file?

I've solved the problem after ranning Combofix! Thank you for all the advices you guys gave me, I appreciated it.
