Laptop freezing while in 3D games (never done before)

Basically bought the new CoD and such and my pc is regulary freezing. When it freezes i have to power it down as nothing else will work.

My laptop specs are;

i7 2.00Ghz 2630QM Intel
8gb of ram
Nvidia GT540m

Is there any reason this is happening?

Maybe a virus or other malware infection...
