Laptop won't fire up when I reopen lid

Hi,
I have an Acer aspire 2930 and when I close the lid and then reopen it, it won't fire up again. I have to power down and re-boot to get it to work again. I've checked the power settings and they are set to sleep mode when the lid is shut.
Any assistance would be really appreciated.

We have a latitude that requires momentarily pushing the power button to wake it up, does that work for you?

Take a look under Ctrl Panel->Power Options (somewhere on there, as i recall) you can specify what you want to happen when you open the lid again

Hi, I've tried pressing the PB shortly but to no avail. When I press the function button it starts up cos I can hear it but the screen stays blank,
