Limited Access

I have a personal computer at the boarding school I attend, an Asus G75VW and whenever I try to connect to the main internet connection, it says limited access. I have also tried using Ethernet and it says unidentified network with the Ethernet. Here is my IPCONFIG/ALL below. I also have Windows 8.1 if that helps.

Well its probably the school network, do you have to register the machine with the network and enter passcodes etc. That sounds like it maybe the issue.

Also I would take down that stuff you posted with your subnet, IP, etc, its alot of personal information about your PC thats a little too much if you catch my drift.

Back on subject, I would first check if you have to register it or something first, then we can go from there.

That is an interesting configuration
DHCP = 1.1.1.1 is a Class A, public and backbone address.
and belongs to
  • OrgName: Asia Pacific Network Information Centre
  • OrgId: APNIC
  • Address: PO Box 3646
  • City: South Brisbane
The IP address 172.16.8.34 is a Class B private (and very acceptable)
but the subnet mask (255.255.255.0) is normally assigned to Class C networks and
with this value, massive portions of the 172.16.x.y network are not available.

Did someone manually configure TCP on this machine?
Yes I see DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
but these can be overridden in the Alternative section of the adaptor

I don't have to register my computer with the tech department. They prefer if we do but we are not forced to.

I don't know what that means, I'm not that knowledgeable with networking. Could you simplify it for me? I believe this was not manually configured cause I did not buy it or get it custom made, I ordered it off Asus.com

That 8.8.8.8 DNS address seems suspect. Right-click on your wifi adaptop (in control panel etc), Properties, Internet Protocol V4, Properties, Obtain IP and DNS automatially.

Was this selected?

I have found my WiFi adapter within device manager but I can't find Internet Protocol V4

You need to open up the Network and Sharing Centre (if using Vista+), Change adaptor settings (on the left), then right-click on wifi.

I just thought it was suspect because you normally assign static IP and DNS at the same time.
