Hello All:
OK here goes: Went on the net to download an updated driver for my modem, did so and installed it and it worked.
But, the next time I rebooted my computer, the screen came up with the windows generic video picture, like the one you get when you load windows safe mode.
I had to run my motherboard disk to load the video driver back on and had to reinstall windows and finally got it working back to normal. Has this ever happened to anyone out there? If so, why did this happen?

Am really confused???

Thnaks in advance

Are you sure your installed MODEM drivers? Sounds like you got VIDEO drivers instead.
I know there are lots of bad modem-drivers out there.
When I still had dial-up, I always modified the modemxx.inf files and took the voice-part out, to prevent the modem-settings from interfering with the sound-settings.
It is easy enough to make a mistake in those .inf files and screw up the video-settings as well.
If you can, just use the default 56K drivers from Windows. They work well in most cases.
