My laptop keeps turning itself off

Hi, similar this is happening to my laptop as well and it turns off without warning. and does turns back on right after. I did the battery troubleshoot didn't work.
doesn't even let me do the temp test, just goes off within a minute.

Its not overheating. I have already taken my laptop in to a repair shop and they assumed it was a virus so they reloaded my Windows. Its only 2 years old and I use Kasperski antivirus. When I took it back to the repair facility, the laptop worked fine with no issues. Made me look like I was crazy. When we got it home ten minutes later, it powered on and lasted about 5 minutes and turned off. For about an hour all we could get it to do was come on for a few seconds and turn right off. Never even completely started. It has already been determined that it is not a heating issue, this computer runs ice cold. Before I take it back for a third time does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? It happens if its plugged into the wall too. Could there be something wrong with the battery that is causing this? My daughter is disabled and uses the laptop for her school assignments. Its a Dell Inspirion. Please, any help would be great.

Lol it's annoying that when you took it to the computer shop it worked fine and as soon as you got home it acted up again. Mine is begging to do the same thing just randomly switches itself off and I'm only after getting it fixed on friday due to a keyboard issue smh :)

I realize this may sound a bit bizarre....

My wife's laptop kept going to sleep when she was using it. It wouldn't do it when I used it....

Turned out it was her magnetic bracelet! I was about to take it back under warranty when I realized. Bracelet off, no problem.

Hope this helps some people.

The temperatures showing are way too high. The laptop needs a good clean out and probably replacement of the heat paste which may have dried out. It shouldn't cost much to have this done at a workshop. Even computers need a service now and again.

Hi, Can you hear the fan working in your PC? Do you normally hear it starting and stopping?
One possibe cause is the fan has stopped, the PC should start and stop it as needed.

I'm not sure if you have a laptop or tower type desktop, but the fan is a very easy item to change.
I've found that the bearings inside the fan last for a few years then fail.
So if you can get the existing one out, the wires have a white plastic plug on the end, which pulls straight off the board.
Take it to a PC parts supplier and get a similar replacement, noting the width of the fan and the plug connections are the same (3 pins usually).
The fan normally will clip into the heatsink in some obvious way, sometimes 'star' screws are used.
You will know when your PC's fan normally goes on and off, usually after about, say 15 mins after switch on, so if that's not happening then the CPU temp will rise a great deal, and the PC will slow right down or even shut off to save itself. Hope that helps.
If it's a laptop it can still be done, it's just more work getting the case apart.

Hmmmm. It could be a battery problem among other things. To test to see if it's your battery, I would take the battery out and just power the laptop with the charger. If the laptop stays on and runs normal using just the charger as power. I'd say it's safe to say your battery is the culprit.

Since the problem happens before the machine even boots into windows sometimes. I'd say it's probably a hardware related issue. Usually, it's almost always overheating in situations like this. You say it's not overheating, but, can you provide actual temps for us to confirm that.

Idle and load temps will give us the best idea of the situation. I would also check your RAM. Do you know how to run a memtest?
Hello there
I have the same problem with my Asus laptop switching off constantly now every 5 minutes or so in a row recently.
Have checked the charger & sometimes feels a little hot but not always also occassionaly says plugged in but not charging even on 99%. The other problem atm is that a few months back accidentally spilt a soft drink on my key board & so some of the keys & numbers dont work so use the online keyboard which is annoying sometimes. Could this be a reason why it switches off too
aprreciate any advice or help please.
Thank you

Download the freeware used by the others who posted earlier and find out for sure if there is an overheating issue.

Well, when you've sorted out whether or not it is overheating you can look into buying and fitting a new keyboard. If the keyboard had been removed immediately and rinsed in distilled water you might just have got away with it. It's likely that a computer shop is your best option or, as you have several problems, a new laptop is worth considering. Dismantling a laptop is not easy. You can use a USB keyboard in the meantime as you don't like the onscreen keyboard.

Oh right ok didnt realise I could remove it from a laptop thanks ,yes have enquired at a couple of places yeaterday re repairs & prices but thought to try and fix it myself first . Think atm its looking that way in a usb keyboard well possibly but gving it another go at fixing it first then decide from there .

With laptops switching on and off, IF it is due to overheating, you can tell that's the case because, if the laptop is ok from cold, and only does it after, say, 10 or 15 minutes, that would mean overheating due to either, too much dust in the the cooling ducts and fan, or the CPU's heatsink thermal paste has dried out and needs reseating. (I.e. CPU running too hot.)
It's always possible to plug in a normal PC keyboard into a laptop's USB port and use it that way (I am doing that right now, as I find a laptop keyboard too smalll and cramped for me. Here it's a Lenovo Yoga 14" but keyboard is an HP desktop full sized keyboard.)
If the laptop is fairly modern and valuable, it would be worth getting a new keyboard fitted.

A desktop computer is easy to pull apart and fix but it's different with a laptop. It may seem expensive to use the professionals but they are unlikely to break any bits dismantling it. They will clean it out and replace the heat paste. The keyboard replacement could be done at the same time. There are video guides on the internet to help disassemble laptops but unless the laptop is very old and you are good at similar projects I'd forget DIY.

Hi again Karl, there are a few repair suggestions to this problem here in this thread, not just one. Can you be more specific detailing your problem?

Please see attached file for what's happening with my Acer. The only difference (though not stated) is that my Acer runs perfectly... In Safe Mode!!

I was getting with the same issue since I bought it, I guess heat wouldn't be the issue, because when you buy a brand new machine it comes with a one year warranty, although due to my lazy attitude I had never claim for this trouble nor I made it fixed from any shop and keep on using along with the issue. So the point is, it is not always the heat problem that causes an automatic restart of machine, by the way, I am using dell Inspiron 5521

Hello,

Make sure your laptop is vents are free from dust. Buy a can of dust removal or just use a blower to free. If you still having issues then the CPU fan has stop spinning at the right RPMs. Thus this can cause overheating..

Hi,
I've been having an issue with my laptop where it would just randomly turn off (black screen and shut down) and I had cleaned the vents of my laptop each time this has occurred (happened about 9 months ago, and then another time 2 months ago). And it has worked fine, no issues, until the next occurrence. Then a few days ago it started happening again, and once more I used dust removal, however, the problem is still occurring so now I'm wondering if there is a hardware issue like I had originally thought. (This all started about two months after I played a game that caused my laptop to become very hot and the fans were working like crazy, however, nothing shut down at the time).
here is a pic of the temps - I would like to note, when I first opened HWMonitor there was only 2 thermal zones and now when I saved this file there are 3....I don't know if that also means anything.
Thanks for the help

You're well past the stage where a blow out with an air can will help. The temperatures for ACPI are horrendous. The cooling fan may have died and at the very least the thermal paste will need renewing. It's important to get the laptop serviced before it's too late.

My laptop also keeps turning itself off randomly whilst im playing games, it doesn't feel like it's overheating and the coming out of my fan is cold, however there doesn't feel to be much air coming out, I've check the temp on hwmonitor:
please reply and help me figure this out, or if I need to hand it in
